Living Car Free - Bicycle Survivor, Living Car Free - Local Contest

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just saw in our local paper today a Car Free contest. It's sponsored by the paper (gjfreepress.com) and a LBS. I tried to find a web link for it but couldn't locate one.

It involves submitting a 400 word essay "Living car free, how would it be?" The three top contestants have to turn in their car keys for 3 weeks (to whom, I don't know) and fulfill their transportation needs by bicycle. Three prizes of a Breezer bike and accessories are offered for the best essays.

Sounds like a great contest! Suggestion to contest entrants: read thru this forum and do a copy/paste into your essay. You'll have 400 words in no time. My problem would be in limiting it to 400 words.

My problem would be that I can't participate in the contest since I don't have car keys to turn in.

So is eofelis entering the contest? All you have to do is give them car keys. So if you don't have a car, just turn in a friend's spare keys.

I have thought about entering the contest but I think I'll give it a pass. We know the LBS owner and despite his service to the community in promoting bicycling for the average person, he has not been so great as to how he treats his employees. My SO worked for him and got screwed over and we know at least two other guys who also got the same treatment (it's a small city here.)

I do have a car and I try to make a point of driving it once a week or so, so it doesn't die of neglect. And a Breezer really isn't my style of bike (prize in the contest.)
