So are any of you who post here coming up to Portland (http://bikeportland.org/2007/08/13/las-midnight-ridazz-set-to-swarm-portland/)? Never mind the cranky guy in the comments section. I think he got up on the wrong side of the bed or something.

Those of you who can't make it will be missed. I've not gone on a Dropout ride, as I do not own a freak bike. There's a first time for everything, though. :)

lol...seen just about every type of bike and body sizes at these events. What is a "freak bike" anyways? Just show up as a sidewalk gawker and see what happens/transpires before deciding to (or not) participate the next time around.

They have a tendency to do that. There is a lot to see and do at night in the big city and the perspective from a bike saddle is an interesting view.

No, but I got to see some of those "haircuts" in real life. I was able to recommend some gift shopping destinations for a few of those guys who were going to encounter some shocked wives when they got home. :D The Angelenos I met on the Dropout ride were such sweeties. I did manage to take a pic of Mr. Placid Casual, Zapatista-style. What a lovely track bike he has. :)

I learned a lot from going on that ride with those Rideazz. Apart from coexisting easier with motorists than the average Portland biker, they really have a strong sense of cohesion and care for everyone in the group. Frankly, we're spoiled riding here. It's easy to get in the habit of being stupid with cars because you're sure that they're not going to try to kill you. Also, it seemed as though quite a few of the Rideazz were older than the average biker age here - it was wonderful to see how they shouted out all the encountered urban hazards, plus rallied and came to a full stop (all of them!) when a rider went down. Maturity is always impressive. :)

We never met any of the whiners from the comments section of the BikePortland article. We met a whole bunch of Zoobombers and other supercools, including, as it turned out, Jonathan from BikePortland, who took this picture:
