Mountain Biking - DH build...

Pretty much decided on everything for my DH build. Wheel parts/brakes will be ordered next week, suspension is in, and frame is expected to ship Sept. 1. Hoping to be riding Northstar mid September :)

Ya, and I love the Nomad, kick ass bike. I went to Northstar and got hooked you could say... I'm keeping the Nomad frame and DHX so I'm sure later down the road I'll rebuild it, but not nearly as nice.

That's funny, I ordered my TOP august 1st and its also supposed to ship that same day. Having to wait a whole month sucks. That sounds like a good build though i'd love to get a blindside someday.

I'm 17, I don't have "lots of money" to throw around. I work at a bike shop 25 hours/week during school, and 40 during the summer. I have nothing else to spend my money with the exception of gas. So how about you shut up and think before you start making assumptions.

Don't worry about it Matt. All that matters is that you EARN the money you spend. Whether you have plenty of money to throw around or not.

Have you thougt about commuting on bike? Gas is ~ $3.30 a gallon here in NYC, a 2 dollar slice of pizza and a fast townie gets us a lot farther per buck:D.

Haha, yeah the shop I currently work at is like 3/4 mile down the road, and I rode their quite often. But that shop is closing today (that's another story :mad: ) but the shop I'm moving to is about a 20 minute drive, by bike would be like 25 miles one way. I'll drive there on the days I work after school, but on Saturdays and Sundays, I'll ride there cause it's all along a pathway that parallels the river.

Looks like a pretty pimp build....but why put XT cranks on it though? They're going to look a little weak next to everything else.

That's what I'm running on my Nomad currently, and before that I was running Saints, and to be honest I can barely tell a difference in the stiffness.

There really isn't much difference, heck the bb cups for the saint are the same as the ones for the xt. Besides keeping some of the weight off is important.

From my experience with the saint crankset, I'd sooner have the xt cranks, they're a bit on the overwhelmingly heavy side, and feel just as stiff as the XT's, so why buy the saint cranks when you can spend the same amount on an xt crankset and save some weight.

Your a bit wrong in your logic there Jetta. XT cranks have been used on dh bikes for ages, they hold up just fine. Besides why replace something that is in really good shape.

Amen! I figure if I do something to jack up my XT's, there is gonna be a lot more busted than just the cranks, on both me and the bike

You dont have money? i ride my bike to work becuase i cant afford gas. Here u are going to build a 3rd bike or somethin. LOL
