Southeast - W. Palm Beach rides...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm going to be in WPB all of next week visiting the in-laws and will have little to do but ride. I've searched this forum and read the A1A threads and called a couple shops inquiring about group rides...
Anyone local care to show me around? I'd describe myself as fast recreational...40-60miles at 18-20mph is no problem. I'll be on a fixed gear (with drop bars, brakes, and no cards in the spokes).
Suggested routes from Okeechobee (Breakers West) out to AIA? My car?
How are the AIA group rides? Crazy fast or shiny bikes/no legs? Will I be welcome on the fixie?
PM me if you'd like to get together. and thanks for any/all advice!

Dookie,
How did you make out? I'm doing the same thing in October.
Any suggestions?
I suggest you just go over to A1A anywhere between Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale and start riding.I could tell you east/west routes in that area I have used to get there ,but nothing that is very bike friendly that I would recommend for relaxed riding. Or, A1A up around Juno/Jupiter is real nice as well. You will run into quite a few other cyclists along A1A particularly on weekends.I don't know which shops the rides in WPB are organized out of but I often notice really large groups in this area of perhaps 30-40 riders or more that I often seem to encounter around Lake Worth and they don't usually seem to be going particularly fast(perhaps this is the slower ride) .And they definitely tend to prefer flashy racing bikes.

Thanks very much. To show my ignorance, when I Google I found 1A. Is A1A the same thing as 1A right along the ocean or is it a different road. I suppose I'll find out but some highways don't allow bikes or are unfriendly to a bike gogin 18mph versus the local walking speed traffic.
Thanks again for your input.
Yes, A1A is the main beach road along the east coast of Florida and also the name of an early Jimmy Buffet album. It is not really an alternate of US1 but a seperate road to the east of the intercoastal waterway that handles mostly lower speed beach traffic and is popular with cyclists, joggers etc.,while US1 is west of the intercoastal and a higher speed more congested main highway. While there might be a 1A for short stretches of US1(US1 generally run along the entire US east coast) ,I don't think any exist in South Florida and would be a seperate road from A1A.
