Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - West Palm Beach rides?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Anyone from these parts? I'm going to be there all week visiting inlaws, and hope to spend as much time as I can on the bike...I'll be bringing the fixie of course.
Any route suggestions, or is A1A about it? Shop suggestions? Group rides?
Any/all advice greatly appreciated. PM me if you wouldn't mind playing tour guide!

Im very new to the area so I cant be of much help , but there are a few shops
that have rides....Google 'Cycle Science' in Juno or shops around Jupiter moreso
than West Palm for the ride type shops. A1A is a good ride for around here. You
might want to check out Jupiter Island into Gomez. Gomez is beautiful ! I
would offer to be a ride buddy but I am still learning the area and I need a faster
bike ! Im rolling a 40lb S.S. fashioned for the hills and weather of Vermont
and it is Soooo painfully S=L=0=W I wouldnt put anybody through the torture
of having to tolerate that. Gear HUGE !!!! Its totally flat !! You could probably roll
85"s with no problem....Heat too...YIKES it is hot a $@%& here !! It can really
sneak up on you. A1A has all these cool little shower/water fountain towers though...
Another reason to stick on it til you get used to the area !
Good luck and be careful....Lots of these HUMMER caroming millionaires are inna
hurry to get to the Yacht club and put a run on some martinis and a lowly
bicycler isnt going to hold them up !!!

If you feel like caging it further south a bit, there are impromptu rides out to the end of key biscayne, and lots of beautiful roads with heavy overgrowth that provides shade down in the coconut grove area. Both of those areas are fairly safe, either with bike lanes or slow residential streets to help.
Be careful around WPB and Lauderdale, poster above is exactly right. Horrible/drunk/rich and uncaring drivers are the norm around here.

Ft. Slaughterdale is more like it
first day here...
parked at A1A/okeechobee intersect, rode to boca raton & back...~55mi. gorgeous from PB to lake worth, then the bike lanes disappeared and the road got crappy until delray bch, then nice again all the way to boca. my 48x17 setup was about perfect for a 21mph cruise. traffic was completely non-threatening, though i was riding from ~7a-10a.
on the return leg, I was passed by a mapei rider (with gears!) and jumped on his wheel as long as I could (~10mi at 27mph!). i assumed he was just a jersey buyer, but he claimed to be a gen-u-wine team rider...apparently the owner of mapei has a house on the beach near highlands bch. who knew mapei was a construction products company?
hot as hades by 10am, and that's coming from a north carolinian!
i'll check out jupiter/gomez in the coming days...sounds nice. thanks for the advice, and let me know if you change your mind about getting together. my wife is here too, and her average is more like 15mph.
