Charity Events - Team Extreme: Paying it forward in a different way

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Update on our team!
We now have 26 sponsors and lucky number 13 members with more coming as soon as their applications are filled out and signed.

This Saturday, September 29, we are holding a Safety Fair in our community. Our team will be providing a bike and helmet safety inspection and a "Speedy Lube" for bike maintenance. We also have KADA providing information to parents on drug and alcohol abuse in youth; the local police are providing a bike safety course with certificates to graduates; the Commission on Children and Families are providing information on the importance, proper fit and proper wear of bike helmets. Both the County and city school districts have agreed to pass out flyers to students to publicize the event, and radio and TV stations are also joining us. We hope to make this an annual event as one of our team's community service projects.

;)Thanks for the response, Brian. I was surprised to get an email from this site saying there was a new post. Actually, I had forgotten all about Bike Forums.

We have found another use for the heavier parts. The kids are building street bikes that we are going to raffle off. We already have the first raffle going. We handed out the raffle tickets to the team members last Wednesday, and already have $300. Not bad considering the tickets are 50 cents each or 12 for 5.00. We actually have people telling us they don't need the bike but if we know a child who could use it, put that child's name on their tickets. Others are buying tickets and telling us to just keep the tickets and sell them to someone else, keep the money as a donation because they want to support what we are doing. The best thing is, people know who we are and what we are doing. We are being discussed in business meetings, schools and offices not only in our own community, but also across the country. I'm amazed at the emails we are getting and where they are coming from. Our team has grown so rapidly, we will soon have to start another team. We are finding that it isn't just troubled kids that we are getting. Parents are asking us if they can sign up their kids because they like our Code of Conduct and what we expect from the members. Kids are asking us if they can join. We have members now whose parents are in law enforcement, counselors, etc. Yes, we do have kids with problems. Two of them have problems related to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome; another is ADD and has epilepsy. Our next project will be a helmet and bike safety inspection for the entire community and a safe riding clinic. We are also asking the Southern Oregon Meth Project to join us and also law enforcement and the High School ROTC to help with the safe riding clinic. We've been given 4 bikes in the last 3 days and we're getting tremendous support from everywhere. If anyone is interested in joining our supporters, they can email us at TeamExtreme@peoplepc.com. We also have a paypal account set up for donations using the same email address. Your members are welcome to keep checking on our progress through our web page. Our web page for now is:

Click on "view full profile" to see everything about us and all our pictures and sponsors. We do have another website, and I am trying desperately to find time to build it but there just aren't enough hours in the day. When I actually get it built, there will be a link provided at the above web page.

Thanks so much for your interest. God Bless all and have a wonderful Holiday.

Had to share good news! Our 9 year old co-founder just won a $500 grant from Game Stop through www.dosomething.org/grants (http://www.dosomething.org/grants) for his work helping to create the team. Good things just keep happening to us!
Thanks to all our sponsors and supporters who have contacted us through our web site. You are the ones that keep the good things happening!
