I'm definitly not going to want to have to drive out to my bike shop after ever hard ride... yet i know almost nothing about how to maintiain a bike.




what book would you suggest i pick up and read?

I would recommend Zinn and the art of mountain bike repair. I think posting this in Bike Mechanics would get more results.

Basically, there is no other book than Zinn. That is the only book people will refer you too.

Zinn is certainly a helpful book, but..If I had to buy one repair book, it would be Barnette's manuals. There just isn't anything out there to rival the ease of use or diagrams. Zinn will get you by for most things, but if you want true detail and complete explanations of everything you are doing, Barnettes is the only way to go. The set of 4 books in the latest volume goes for around $100 in a bookstore and somewhere around $70 or &80 on Amazon. Definitely worth the money.

You can find the downloads in the "Bicycle Mechanics" forum at the top. Just download all the chapters and print them. It'll save you the $100.

Good idea. I bought the volume before I realized that they were so easily available online )They hadn't been organized and posted here yet). Still, I would rather have a hard copy of the boks in front of me just because I find it easier to flip through them and get to what I need.
