how long does it take you to do your 15 or 34 mile trips? what sort of times should i be aiming for per mile?

I can do about 16-17mph but for a soild 2 hours (given flat terrain), but a month back that would have been hell. Work at your own pace if your "new" at this it will take some time to get your muscles adjusted to riding (or at least mine took some time). Once you have that, the speed and distance will come.

as for my rides, I do 20-30 miles on the weekdays and whatever i feel like on the weekends. The only event i have participated in was 45 miles.

The furthest in one day was about a month ago on Pedal the Peaks (http://www.cycleamerica.com/peaks2002/route.htm) when we rode 127 miles and climbed 3900 ft. After a 10 mile warm up, we had about a 10 mile climb over Rabbit Ears pass...then lots of rollers and flats...then at 90 miles a long long hill that we could see for 10 miles or so which kind of psyched you out. Left around 6am and finished around 4:15. Just checked my log and the average for the day was 16.7mph and max speed was 46. Yesterday was a typical ride for me - 44 miles and 18.7mph average. Ride on!!

im new at this been riding only three weeks maybe. on the average i can ride 20 miles at about 19.5 mph's. sumbody told me that slower steady rides are wut it takes to build up a solid pace. am i starting out at a good pace for this or should i slow dawn a smidge or speed up. I am really unsure about how to go about this since im pretty green. so wutever help you guys can give me that would be most appreciated. thanx

Longest ever: 77 miles.
Daily ride: 33 miles (29mile training ride and 4 mile ride home).

If I get out of the office at a decent time tonight, I'm hoping to go on a 50 miler tomorrow. Need some time on the road to clear my head.

Hey nivek I live in MS too! Not too many of us around here hehe.
Umm farthest I've ridden is 75 miles (could do alot more but I need to get a new bike!), I want to do a century by the end of the year. Daily mileage is usually around 40 miles. Longer on the weekends. For the 40 miles I avgeraged just under 20mph earlier this week so with a new bike...low 20's hehe? That would be nice.

Most of my rides are around 30 to 50 miles. I have however done 5 centuries so far this year and two of them were back to back (Seattle to Portland Bicycle Classic). My longest ride in a single day so far was around 140 miles from my home in Sammamish, WA to Mt. Rainier and back.

I usually ride about 50 miles. Here in Central Florida, riding for longer distances is not that common. I generally do a few centuries every year but not much more then that. Once I did do 178 miles in a day. But I long ago learned that by the time I do a century, I have had all the fun I am going to have on a bike for that day.

I have a self-imposed 15 mile per day minimum, which takes about 70 minutes. Most days, however, by the time I hit 12 I start to feel really comfortable, thighs and quads warmed up sufficiently, and I go for 20 on weekdays.

On week-ends, I used to average 25-30 at the same 13-15 mph average, but lately I have been stretching it out. Yesterday, I did 54 miles in 4 hours. The last two hills, however, were absolute killers!

That is my longest so far, but I am slowly building toward a century. I think, however, I will have to get a different bike. I am riding a Trek Navigator 300 comfort bike right now and pushing that beast up hills is a real chore!

On weekdays I ride mostly ~20 mile rides. I vary the route but the distance is generally 20 miles. Twice a week I ride with my wife during the week. Those rides are mostly 10-15 miles. On the weekends it is mostly with my wife and sometimes a longer ride alone. The longest ride I have done to date was ~70 miles and mostly flat.

I am training for the 2004 STP, so I want to get some centuries under my belt. In addition I want to do more climbing, so locally I want to do Larch Mountain.

I try to ride 25-30 miles on Saturday or Sunday. My route is pretty hilly and the best that I have averaged is 15 mph. My longest ride ever was 115 in Canada after we missed a turn, got lost and rode an extra 35 miles to find our way. Funny, I never got lost again after that.

Sunday I rode 34 miles of hills. My average was 16.7 mph.

I usually ride 15 miles on M,T,Th,Fr. Ill ride around 10 miles on Sat.

Then I go on a distance ride Sunday morning. Im working on stretching my distance now. I could easily ride 20 miles each day, but it is really hard to find the time.

Currently, I'm at 60-70 miles/week. I've got an MS150 in October w/ 80 miles on Day 1. I hope to be at 150 mi/week by then... Currently, my average speed has been steadily increasing from a baseline of 14.8. I was at 15.8 today over 10 miles.

i've only been riding a month...my average ride is 15-20 miles, mostly because they're done on weeknights. terrain is flat, average about 14-15 mph. but weekends i head for the hills... i just did my longest ride yet, last weekend, which was 38.5 miles with 1800 ft of elevation. it knocked the snot out of me! i was so wasted for the rest of the day. what that told me was a) i can do more than i thought i could and b) i'd better do more on a regular basis!

but two days later i was back on the bike.

My average ride on the weekend is 35-50 miles. The pace changes, however. Sometimes I want to pump it out and push hard...sometimes I just want to smell the flowers.

I've done two centuries and few metric centuries.

Frankly, after doing the second century I decided 65 miles was a better ride all around.

Its important to sit back now and then and just enjoy the ride.
