One of our (out of two) country stations changed format and are now known as "Thunder Country" with a promise of wonderful cutting edge country music, then one of the first "Artists" they play is.......Wait for it...

Who would YOU not expect to be on a country station, and be horrified if they were?

Maybe even ugh.....Garth Brooks. Jimmy Buffet is just not country, could it be he is trying to make a comeback and the country stations are the only ones that will play him? Kind of the same reason Kenny Rogers went country, but Kenny Rogers actually was good. :)

BT I have to agree, country used to be my favorite until I discoved there is so much more out there, I have moved on to Folk, Bluegrass, Americana, but not limited to those....

Blasphemers!!!!! Buffett left Nashville decades ago and never looked back. "Why Don't We Get Drunk and Screw" was sort of his way to flip off the Nashville establishment. He has never gotten much radio play and has never had a number one hit. His legion of fans are hardcore and help him sell CD's without the support of radio.

They also could have played Bon Jovi.

Isn't a 'good country music station' an oxymoron?

I'm certainly no country fan, but I sympathize with FlyingAnchor. Such is the state of commercial radio these days, no matter what the format du jour is. I've given up and like Donna and millions of others, have gone iPod or generic mp3. Commercial radio is dead and the "titans" (i.e., the Clear Channels of the world) have killed it.

If you have a Mac and Itunes. Check out the "radio" section in Itunes for intenet radio. The connections are already set up for you. You will probably find just the right type of progamming.

I like classic country music meaning 70'ish and older. Especially the 60's

We do have absolutely the best radio station KHUM (don't go there) and they brag about the fact they are completely locally owned. I just can't recieve it at my house and I am limited to C/W and C/W.
KHUM plays anything and everything, from old folk new folk celtic, BG, country, and everything in between.
The syndication of radio stations has hurt the listeners and the performers in more ways than I can count.

But, Jimmy Buffet is, is, is, I don't know.........he is fine actually but just not on country and western.

I have met Jimmy Buffet breifly after one of his shows. He does a concert in Atlanta every year at Chastain Park. Some associates I know in Atlanta go down to Florida to his place in Orlando, I believe. :rolleyes:

Might be, but that does not change the fact that C&W makes me churn. I tried, back some years ago, to force myself to listen to it for a week and see what the resulting experiment would do. It did nothing but make me hate it even more for wasting a week on listening to that crap. [my own opinion of course]

wfin, I have found a lot of music that in my opinion would qualify as 'good country'. But very little of it originates in Nashville, and almost none of it is played on your average AM 'country music station'. I have found that much of it comes from independent artists and producers located in Austin, Texas and other cities throughout the country with thriving and diverse indy music scenes. If you like I could make some recommendations, starting with Joe Ely.

Wfin, I sure understand you not liking C/W and I really do get tired of the syndicated stations thereof. I started with Marty Robbins and Johnny Horton, admitedly it is not for everyone, but they do it for me. What is your favorite?

My interests are just to varied and eclectec to name them all here.
