Ok, Im about to get violent !
Does anyone know how to unformat the TextEdit settings ??
Im trying to re-do a resume and between the bizarre mouse
pointergiests hijinx and not being able to remove the HUGE
borders on an 8.5x11 sheet Im about to go NuTz !?!?!?
Ive tried the usual stuff like making sure there is no page wrap,
set up a 'custom' page size, etc; the printer is set to 'no borders',
but I cannot get it to print with less border space .....The default
top and bottom spacing is about 1.5" with an inch on the sides !!!
Waaaay too much !!!

I really dont want to get all PC over here.........

GRRR! It's Mac users like you that make PC people laugh at us! Just use Microsoft Word and be done with it.

(I applaud you for resisting "the man", but sometimes you just have to bite the bullet :()

Of course that is the way an intelligent person would do it
but I just dont have the 149.00 to drop on Word for what I hope is
a onetime use. Now, I must suffer my cheepness
I do have it on my PC but the PC is dying and like fighting a big, ugly
dinosaraus rex......So its just a matter of what evil I might want to
tolerate getting this handled. I chose the MAc because the more I
fight with it now, there is a good possiblity of less stupid questions later...
Its all a learning process. The manual is sort of useless. They really
push this one-on-one stuff at the Apple store. Going to the West Palm Beach
Gardens mall is just too frightening to think about

People laff at me for a variety of reasons...one more is no big deal :p

Oh well....Im gonna go for a ride and drop some hybrid riders along the beach road....
That always makes me feel better about myself :D

Freeware, you will need X11 to run it. The instructions are here.

http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/sys_reqs_20.html

NeoOffice.

Ran than OpenOffice try <a href="http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php">NeoOffice</a>. It's basically OpenOffice made more specifically for the Mac.

For the TextEdit issue I wonder if there's a preferences file under the Library folder that might be causing an issue.

I found a TextEdit Express which is an addendum to TextEdit. Know anything about that?

I bought the cheap Microsoft Office 2004 package for Mac, it's got MSWord, Excel and Powerpoint plus a few other goodies, w/o Access; seems to work fine.

I don't (*snicker*) condone this kind of thing (*lol*) but if you really want to stick it to Mr. Gates, do the following.

Find a friend that has word on his Mac. Run a 6-pin firewire cable betwixt the two. Hold down the "T" key as you turn your buddy's machine on. It will show up as a hard drive on your computer (which has been on this whole time). Find the Office Suite in applications, select drag and drop onto your computer.

You now have Office for free.

But srsly, don't do it ;););):D:D:D

Or he could get Pages (part of iWork)

Get iWork '08. Its a lot cheaper than MS Office (and I'd argue that its better for home use). If you DO get MS Office, get V.x not 2004. Or just use Abiword / NeoOffice (which is pretty damn good).

TextEdit is a pretty average text editor. The RTF mode ****s me. Try converting to plain text with shift+cmd+t and see if that helps.

You might also want to check out Mariner Write (http://www.marinersoftware.com/sitepage.php?page=12). It gets good reviews, and lets you open and edit Word documents.

Lem, if you were a reasonable bike ride away, I'd never offer such a thing. After all, that's not how I got my copy of Office for Mac. No way. ;)
