Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Hometrainer Tyre

Whats the deal with these? Ive seen a couple people run these on the street. Rears only. Everything ive read online selling them says not to run em outside. Why not? Looks good but whats up with em?

I don't have experience with them, but i would guess they're designed to roll in an upright position on rollers or trainer, they might not be able to handle sideways loads or cornering, don't have any puncture resistance, and would probably be susceptible to tears and such.
they look cool though.
I'm interested to hear if anybody has run them on the street.

I know of a guy that ran them in Tokyo (Hal) but i never thought to ask him about em.

They are designed to be tough for trainers, which turn regular tires prematurely flat-topped. They shouldn't be used on the street because they are super hard compound and not optimized for the road.

I have the CycleOps Fluid2 and it eats tires.

They probialy don't grip the road well at all.

You're looking at this the wrong way. The trainer tires are meant to withstand the heat and pressue of trainer usage. They weren't designed with road usage in mind. Trainer tires use rubber compound that is cold running, designed to not squeel on the roller, etc. Tires meant for the road have puncture resistance, higher TPI and better shock absorbsion.

Why would you use a trainer tire for the road when there are other colored tires available?

So its really about puncture resistance i guess.
I never said i wanted to run one nessicarily..ive just seen a few people do it recently and wanted to know the real deal on them from people who know. Exactly why anyone would do it. I mean i know it looks good but maybe there was more to it.

They're really hard with almost no grip, they're good only for skids contest and various freestyle skids

sounds like they'd be fun for skidding.
