I just got the bike and i've only ridden it twice one time heavy riding and i just got a flat, i wasnt even sure if there was a flat on my ride home, i didnt even feel it. but in the morning the rear wheel is deflated. The only possible reasoning is a puncture. well i have no idea how to fix a tubular so i need to remove the rear wheel however i cant realyl take it off. How do i derail chain from the cog? Iro made the chain tension pretty tight
any help?

Just push the wheel forward so the chain can come off the cog, then take the wheel off. To patch a tubular, you have to cut the stitching in the tire and pull the tube out a few inches. Patch it, put it back in and sew it up.

it wont go any further

You got tubulars from IRO? I didn't even know that was an option.
If the wheel won't go any further forward you'll have to walk the chain off of the chainring. Just push it off to the side while cranking forward, making sure not to lose a finger in the process.

Why would you opt for tubulars if you cant even get your wheel off your bike, let alone fix a flat tire?
Allanbinho
08-12-07, 07:48 PM
i didnt opt for it, that was what was given, its got a presta valve so... and i couldnt roll off the rim
Allanbinho
08-12-07, 07:49 PM
and i took off the rear wheel so OP is answered by myself thanks anyways

i can roll it so i can see the inside of the rim, but it wont roll off, then i can go from the other side and do the same, roll it until i see the inside of the rim but it wont come off.
i need a pryer huh?

Yes. don't be cheap and use a spoon either. you can get some cheap tire levers from any lbs.
Allanbinho
08-12-07, 08:06 PM
k problem solved then. Do i have to pry it back on?
try a tire lever for all your prying needs
edit: read this (http://www.sheldonbrown.com/flats.html) or search for changing a bike tire and find something that makes sense to you

so i could've done this w/o actually removing the wheel itself huh?

so i could've done this w/o actually removing the wheel itself huh?It depends, if you are just patching the tube than yes, if you are replacing it, no.

thanks, i hope the wheel is still okay, i didnt even know i had a flat until the morning so it's possible for me to be riding with one (not sober)
it looks true but is there other ways to tell a wheel if its in shape?

Umm..... first you need a highly specialized occular instrument called an "eye ball", then you use a grasping mechanism called a "hand". You then rotate the tire with the "hand" and check for wobbles with your "eyeball"

you could have taken it to a shop for an easy fix.
at least you tried to do it yourself. you'll learn and it'll become easier every time... or more difficult depending on how hopeless you are.

while you have the tire off, put on a thin glove and run your finger around the inside of the tire and rim to make sure there is nothing sharp that caused the flat. sounds like it is a huge ordeal to change it, and i wouldn't want you going though it all again anytime soon. ;)

sounds like you just need one more link in your chain. I had a problem getting my rear off with a short chain.

Please pick up a bicycle maintenance book, read Sheldon Brown, and/or take a class if your LBS offers one.

Isn't knowing how to change a tire sorta like knowing how to masturbate? You just sorta know how to do it. It amazes me when people can't figure it. It ain't rocket science.
Let Tony @ IRO know ya'll want tubulars....he'd love that.
I love how the OP just makes themselves more and more dumb which each successive post in this thread.
BEST THREAD EVER!

... i thought this ended a while ago
uhhh to the haters. knowing how to change a flat is not at all like masturbating.
I dont need to go out buy a tool, or even think about it.
all i needed was a couple of pointers so instead of heading to my LBS on a sunday night where they are closed or any CO-OP place such as Times Up, i sorta used this platform as my CO-OP/LBS to give me some pointers.
its all good though, i'd do the same to me if i were in any of your shoes but i gotta start somewhere right? Just thank me not asking anything about deep V's or spingeries and matching paint and bar stuff.

Once allan started cracking jokes, i thought the whole thread was fake.
I don't think you guys had to be this mean but Alan you truly noobed yourself. Park Tools' website and Sheldon Brown have snark free info on most repair procedures, but I recommend that you buy a nice repair manual--it's easier to work with while actually fixing your bike. Haynes' bike repair manual got me going .

incase anyone cares, i fixed it. Took the tube out and everything, all that good stuff.
It is sorta like masturbating except i dont feel like going to sleep afterwards.
Now that my tires are fixed, what color deep v's should i get next? Are phil's worth the money, and what risers should i get. Should i get the HUF cracked decals thing? Where do you buy sleeveless T shirts?
Thanks all.
oktokrewl
08-13-07, 08:33 PM
deep v's: neon green
phils: NO! for the love of god NO!
risers: get the ones that look like drop bars ;)
decals: yes... 236 of them..
T's: rip the sleeves of one of your mom's T-shirts... oh wait, then you would have a sleeveless garbage bag.. just steal you lil sis's shirts.. they will look like they are sleeveless without doing anything to them at all.. magic!
oh, and I changed a tire AND patched a tube just yesterday! hooray! :D
************ is WAY fun!

im thinking about patching a tube while masturbating and using crank grease as KY.
how is it that allan can remain cool while asking the most idiotic questions
i need that
