Mountain Biking - I've gotten 2 flats in 2 days. Do most people use tire liners?

Hi guys.

Just wondering if most people use tire liners in their tires. If so, are there any brands that are better than others? I know Sport Chalet carries them. On my old bike, I used the extra thick inner tubes and tire liners, which seemed to work OK. The trade off is weight. My new bike doesn't have any liners.

I've started doing some off-roading, and have picked up some thorns... 2 flats in 2 days.

I remember when I was in oklahoma I blew 2 tires in about 100ft
The thorns there are like steel. Get liners and slime tubes and you should be ok.

Went thru the same thing a couple of years ago. Went tubeless and haven't gotten a flat since.

Either run UST setup (rims and tires) with stans sealant
or
run regular tires with no tubes and stans sealant with stans kit.

I run both setups on different bikes they both work well.

I've started doing some off-roading, and have picked up some thorns... 2 flats in 2 days.


You have to be dilligent about checking for thron pieces left in the tire. A thorn or catus spine will poke through the outer tire and when you pull it out break and leave a point (in the outter tire) that repunctures the tube when you put the wheel back together and inflate it. Use a tissue or other light cloth to rub the inside of the tire, when it snags look in that area for a thorn remnant.

I was at a motorcycle dealer show yesterday and saw that a company called tireballs that makes a product used for motor cycle and atv applications now has the same system for mountain bikes. They had the XC balls and DH balls there for display. I was asking him about the MTN Bike stuff, and he said they just got them finished and are going to some bike bike show in Vegas to debut them in a month or so.

I went through a patch of goat head thorns last week and used 15 patches to fix the two flat tires. I still do not use liners. I will just get newer, thicker tires when I can.

Yup, interesting concept, but wouldn't they still need to be filled with some kind of flat protection fluid?

Friend of the guy who makes them threw out some exploratory posts on the forum last year as they were interested in the possible market for bikes. It didn't get very far; most people were skeptical of the weight:

I PMd Quadzone a while back and they are testing some protoypes for DH use. Reminds me that I've got to check back and see how that's going.

with 15 patches you pretty much have liners

I have never been to their website...... I do run them in my race quads and dirt bike and they work awesome. They are light and its almost impossible to puncture them. I am gonna try to get some next week for the MTN bike and see how they work...I'll let you all know.
