This week has been my first experience with 700c tires. When I put on my new Botragers I had a hard time getting the bead to seat properly all the way around. I had to inflate and deflate both tires twice while manipulating the tires to get them to seat properly. The tires are the Race Lite Hardcase model. They do have pretty stiff sidewalls as they are a puncture resistant model.

Thanks Jet,

I saw those too and thought that it just meant that it didn't want to go on over the rim. I didn't realize I would have to manipulate the bead.

On the other hand, I just bought a set of 700 x 28 Continental Ultra Gatorskins, and compared to the Vittoria Zaffiros they replaced, they went on a LOT easier. No tools required to get them on. Those Vittoria's were an absolute b i t c h kitten to put on.

I have never mounted Bontrager tires, but it has been my experience that most hard to mount tires will loosen up slightly after being on the rim awhile.

I haven't noticed any general differences in mounting difficulties between 700c or 27in. or 26in. ("MTB") or 406. Lots of differences between specific tire models, tho.
