so, i met this guy at work that had a '73 scwinn le tour in his garage, and i asked him about it. he told me he'd sell it to me for 40 bucks. i wanna convert it into a fixie, only thing is, he's 6 feet tall, and i'm 5'8" and ride a size 54 in my langster. worth it?

Ask to ride it and then you can tell if it is worth it.

They were made by Panasonic... if it fits and is in good enough shape, why not. At least it isn't one of their filet brazed monstrosities..

i took a look at it. it has all the original parts on it, including the tires, which are completely rotted away. the frame and fork are in perfect condition, which is all i really cared about. it's a little big for me, but rideable.

my roommate has a le tour. shiny royal blue with chrome fork tips. i want it. i say go for if it fits.

is it a chicago one or a "schwinn approved" (read: janapese) one? I think their pretty bikes, i have one and it rides nicely.

A lot of bikes from that vintage were taller than they were long.... so you only end up with standover issues rather than reach problems. I have an old 61cm bike that has the same TT as a modern 57. You could always were platform boots when you ride it.

the orange le tours are still some of my favorite paint of all time.. such a good ****in orange

i went ahead and bought it from him. i actually was wearing work boots when i sized it up [oops], so it's a freakin' tank, but i didn't mind forking over fourty bucks for it. it'll be a fun project, regardless.

oh, and yeah, it's the chicago.
