We're down to one weekend left before we all invade Witicha Falls for the ride. And I for one need to put some miles on my legs and my new bike before I head out there. I plan to ride as much as possible next weekend to feel confident in m fit on the Serotta and the fitness in my legs.

My plan:

8/18: PBA Distance Builder ride. XL Cycle @ Independance & Legacy. Time: 7:00am.
8/19: (Open to ideas. Looking for maybe a 45mi route, 17-18mph pace) Time: early. ;)

I will meet you at the end with beer. Been off the bike so much with other things this year that I would be off the back in the first 20.

I might be able to do a Sunday ride. Saturday I'm doing a time trial, but if you can come up with a low traffic route for Sunday I could be in!

Check out the new ride by Todd and Brandy. Enforced recovery ride (16-18 avg). Anyone who tries to break up the pace of the ride by inciting rioting will be beaten, tarred and feathered. Also starts at L&I, I believe at 8:00am. I'm not sure how far they are going but I think it's ~40.

PBA M&M ride will be a century on Sunday 8/19, FYI

Would guess a pace of 17ish ave.

I'm not going to be trying a century for my Sunday ride, but I'm not surprised that PBA has one going right now as prep for those doing the full distance at HHH. I've got my sights set on the 100k again this year, thus figured the 40-45mi distance would be a good primer distance.

I will be doing a ride on Sunday ranging from 45-60 miles. My plan is to head up through Prosper to Celina (Jon -the sam route that you and I did a couple of weeks ago). Wind direction/speed is the deciding factor on whether I do this route or not. If there is the a strong wind coming out of the south I normally won't do this route. Another option that my buddy came up with is a White Rock ride from Frisco. I've never done this route but he has done it several times.

Also, as Doggus stated, there is a ride that leaves from Legacy and Indepence on Sunday that is in the ~45 mile range. I did it last Sunday and it was a great ride! It is a RECOVERY ride and the 15-17MPH speed is strongly enforced. Unfortunately that is the same route that I train on two times per week so I need different scenery this Sunday.

Anyone is welcome to join me on my ride on Sunday. It will be a steady, casual pace in the 17MPH range.

Kevin, that's certainly an idea (one that I had been keeping in the back of my mind). Guess it depends on who can make the drive up that direction.

I did a ride west of Celina last weekend, and some of the roads were AMAZING, nice and smooth and decent scenery, but some of the roads were HORRIBLE chipseal that made me never want to go back up there. Do you have a route that uses decent roads up that way? I'd like to go and ride 1385 again, but the roads I used to get to it were so bad.

The roads that I use to get to 1385 are pretty bad too but I don't mind...that just comes with the territory. It would be nice if every road were perfect but unfortunately they are far from perfect. 1385 is worth having to ride on a little chipseal to get to.

What roads do you take to get to 1385? I went 428 and 455 last weekend. I guess I just need to go up there and wander around until I find something that I like.

I start from my house in McKinney. I take Rockcreek to 289. I take HWY 289 to Business 289. There is a cross street in Prosper (I don't know the name of it) that will take you over to 1385. I will ride on 1385 all the way to 455. It allows me to ride pretty far on that silky smooth asphalt. I'll take 455 over to Celina where I take a break. I have several options for the route home. It depends on how tired I am from my ride up to Celina.

08-14-07, 02:56 PM
That's similar to the route I rode, although I drove on 289, and having driven on it, I'm not sure I'd want to ride on it (it was really busy on our drive back).

289 has a wide shoulder and I am only on it briefly.

For those pondering it, the Sunday century will MOST LIKELY be a 55 mile loop ending back at Indy & Legacy followed by a 20 minute stop followed by another 45 mile loop ending at Indy & Legacy.

I'll be doing the above mentioned PBA Distance Builder ride which is right in the speed range that you're looking for. Come on out! Look up XL Cycle at Legacy and Indepeance in Plano Tx for directions to the start location.

Not doing the PACC team ride on Sunday? They have a 50 mile option.

No, Sir! Sunday's are set aside for recovery. The PACC ride is going to turn into a red and black blur going down the street at about 30 MPH.

Cuda, is that the 8:00 ride?

No, it's the PBA Distance Builder ride, starting at 7am. Little slower pace than the 8:00 "Do Rag" ride that the PBA has on Saturdays. Length will be 35-50mi depending on the option I believe.

Length will be 35-50mi depending on the option I believe.Yeah.... the 8:00 group frequently runs 22-ish on Saturdays. 7 am rides offer speeds 13 mph average and up, so be sure you've found the right group. DB is usually the northernmost group formed up in the parking lot (as opposed to in front of the bike shop).

I need a Sunday morning ride, but I would like to stay under 20 average for this week. I will have to drive in from Duncanville so the later the better. Suggestions?

Well... Sunday morning has the 8 o'clock recovery ride with an enforced 17 average and the 8 O'Clock Ride that will be 19 or more.

I'm not sure yet. If not my place then it will be from Frisco. We haven't decided where we are going yet. Route will depend on wind speed/direction. If the wind is strong and out of the south we will not be doing the Celina route. If that is the case my buddy knows a route from Frisco to WRL. One thing is for certain, we will be doing ~50 miles.

Not sure on Kevin's route, but once you get to the other side of 121 here's what I would do:

1) Take Ohio south, eventually turning into Hillcrest. You'll cross Frankford, and the signal after that is McCullum. Hang a left at the signal and down to the first stop sign: Meander Way and take right. Meandering way takes you south again till you pass Spring Valley. The stop sign after spring valley, take a right on Peyton(?). That street dead-ends at the start of the White Rock Creek trail head park.

2) Take Alma south to Renner where you'd take a right. Renner down to Waterview where you take a left. Waterview will take you down to Melrose where you take another right. Melrose turns into LaManga on the other side of Coit. Continuing on La Manga you'll hit Meandering Way. From there it's the same as above.

It looks like we will be leaving Frisco at 7:15. I am meeting my friend Al at his house, in Frisco at 7:15. If others are interested they can meet us at the Collin County Community College on Wade. We will ride by the college on our way out. We will have a head wind to fight on the way out but a tail wind to bring us home which is always nice.

For any others interested on this side of things (west of 360), I'll be doing the Bikes Inc. ride with some buddies (Arlington location). Starts @ 5:00pm sharp at Park Row and Bowen in Arlington. 40-45 miles, 17-19mph pace, no drop.
