It's official (http://www.xiiad.com/music/Van%20Halen%20-%20Jamie's%20Crying.mp3) first date will be in Charlotte, NC September 27.

Bassists Michael Anthony will not be with the band. :(

Story here. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20250921/)

I'd rather have Michael A. and the bros. doing instrumentals then both Lee Roth and Sammy trading lead duties on stage.

Michael makes that band...his foundation and vocals are so distinct.

If they haven't killed each other by then....

I saw DLR at the tour he did with Sammy about 5 years ago. Time has had its toll. Forgive me if I don't get too excited.

Seems like Michael Anthony is in agreement.

I thought Eddie was looking like some 78 year old babuska these days.

The most horrible sounds I have ever heard at a concert were undoubtably the Michael Anthony bass solo at a VH show back in 1991. Five minutes of hell. Thank god I didn't have to pay for that ticket.

To be fair, cancer can be hard on the body, as if he wasn't hard enough on it already.

I'd rather see AC/DC tour and stop by Detroit.

Sammy is 1000000000000x more talented, but classic DLR is unmatchable in energy and showmanship.

Since none of those dudes can do high kicks anymore, like I said...I'd rather see an instrumental tour w/ Michael.

That 5150 tour was the last good VH show, ever. Thank god they taped it! Go watch Eddie and Sammy battle on guitar. Great stuff.

Day-um. This is the first I've seen of this. :(

Guess I'll still try to find someone to go see Alison Krauss with me instead. :o

Who's the tour sponsor? Depends? Geritol? Dentu-creem?

I still feel that the first Van Halen album was one of the greatest rock 'n roll albums of all time....bar none. Eruption, IMHO, still stands as the end-all/be-all of unaccompanied guitar solos....there are many, many, many other guitarists who can play circles around Eddie, but he just got EVERYTHING right in that 1 minute and 42 seconds....notes, feel, tone, timing, structure, etc. One aspect of his playing that most everyone seems to forget or overlook is his ability to actually write songs/rythym guitar - that's his real strong suit.

With all that being said....it's sorta like going to see a Metallica show now. They're past their prime. Time to move on :(.

It sucks, I got into Metallica a decade ago when I first heard them play with the SF orchestra on NPR, and my parents told me to go to a Metallica concert when I was older because they sure as hell didn't want to take me. Not much I could do at 11 or 12. Thing was, even just a few years after I got into them, they started sucking so hard I wouldn't go to one of their shows if you paid me. But dang they made some good stuff in their day.

Um....he's kinda dead. I don't want no corpses on stage.

It's worth seeing....so long as Eddie can still shred, then bring it.

I'd read elsewhere that the choice was not Anthony's, but rather the VH brothers. IOW, Michael was ****canned. Then again, I shouldn't believe everything I read on the interweb.

Your info is probably right. According to some reports I have read, Eddie's 16 year old son, Wolfgang, will play bass.

This is true.

But it's not like he's trying to replace John Paul Jones in Zep or anything. He's playing bass lines to Van Halen songs.

Yeah, the backing vocals were all Mike, but with Dave back up front, that's not so important, either.

I just bought a bottle of the Reposado, and it is indeed pretty awesome. I wish it didn't cost so much!

It is pricey, but I'll give to Sammy, I never thought of tequilla as a sipping drink until he showed me the light. I prefer it over DLR's singing nowadays.

I owe you a shot of the Blanco just for giving the Cabo some love in this thread

They're letting David drive the bus???

Actually I'd like to see the show. I regret not having seen them in the 80's with DLR. Sammy did a great job, but I still think David was better.

What's that guy who used to sing for Extreme doing? ("That's $8.75, please pull around to the first window.")
