I'm here in Greenwood (Upstate SC), still off the bike 5+ weeks and counting with a bad disk in my back. :( I miss the riding in N. Myrtle Beach, though. I usually ride when I vacation there each year. Went to Pigeon Forge this year though...

Greenville is a wonderful place to live. I love it here. And I even hate NASCAR.

Union County NC, 500 yds from SC... Why do the SC road signs only name one of the roads at an intersection?

Still, you're in South Carolina. I've lived here my entire life, and it sucks.

Maybe I just like it here so much, because I am from Atlanta originally. So theoretically, Greenville could be the 2nd worst place to live in the US and I would be oblivious.

I used to get the best hamburger and fries at the Dairy-O.

Our Weds. evening ride comes close to you, going out Camp Creek, then right on Austin Rd, then right again on Old Camden up to Tradesville, then back to legends and into Mineral Springs. It's been too hot to do the whole route, so we've begun cutting it short the last few weeks.

Oh, Union County, NC boy (actually old man) here!

Aside from my sarcastic rantings prior....

Born in Hartsville, SC but raised in rural Darlington County. I attended Clemson University in 1991-1993, and spent a few summers on Seabrook Island outside of Charleston. Moved to Beaufort, SC in 1993, then to Hilton Head Island in 1998, but back to Beaufort in 2002. My family roots are very deep in the Palmetto State, with my ancestor settling on the Lynches River in current Lee County in 1686. My children make the 14th generation of my family to live in South Carolina. My Great-Grandmother was a Waxhaw Indian, so there is a link that goes prehistoric to the area.

I'm the snooty one, that never waves, and looks like he's in the middle of an interval. You can tell I'm serious about my training by the way my stomach bounces on the top tube.... ;)

I do have a weakness for stopping in Mineral Springs for a slushee!!!!!!

Mmmm. Slushee. If you didn't ride so farkin' early, I could get up at the crack of dawn and join you. But as it is, I would have to get up in the middle of the night to get out there by the time you ride. :(

BTW, on our ride last Sunday morning, polara and I hit the local Bojangles. One of us overslept and hadn't had breakfast, but I won't tell you his name.

Just think of how nice and cool it is at that hour. C'mon, it might clean up our language to have a newbie along??????? NOT!

BoJangles, breakfast of champions!

We stop at Bo in Waxhaw every Sat. and Sun. morning after our 12 mile warmup.

DDan / jppe - I grew up in Clemson and attended college there as well (same time as you DDan)! I moved to Charlotte for a short stint, back to Clemson and then back to Charlotte where I have been for the past 11 years. :) My mom still lives in Clemson so I regularly go back with my family and my bike always goes too! :D

serotta - right there with you on the seriousness of my training! Boy, that slushee sounds good!! :p

WWaldo - COOL! Most likely have seen out for sure as your routes are very similar to mine (especially your 24-miler). :) I live off of Hwy 84 at the Waxhaw-Indian Trial intersection (Harris Teeter). So, I usually go down to Billy Howie rd, New Town, Potter, 74, Waxhaw-Indian Trial, Pleasant grove and back around for a 21-mile loop.

We should all try to meet for a ride one day. :) Saturdays/Sundays are best for me from a consistency standpoint.

Small world, there's a Clemson grad that I ride with whose Mother still lives in Seneca, right next door to Clemson. They live right off Beulah Church Rd.

Where do you people ride in The Myrtle Beach area. the only trails I know of are at Vereens Gardens in Little River. I am up that way quite a bit and a place to ride would be great.
I am the trails coordinator at Marrington Plantation in Goose Creek, so come on down and ride.

You are right about that, not many places to ride here. I helped build some of the trails at Vereens ,but I just don't ride mtn. bikes to much now due to having to go somewhere else to ride. John

I lived just down the road in Garner for 11 yrs-in fact I graduated from Garner Sr and also from the Red and White.........and my employer had the nerve to send me down to Clemson for 3 years to work some years later. I must admit there are really good folks in both places but will give the nod to riding in the Clemson/Seneca area. And the lakes aren't too bad there either.

If you think that is strange, the African-American's on the Sea Islands developed their own language after they were abandoned and isolated from the rest of the world. It's called Gullah and has become a recognized language of it's own. There was a children's TV show on Nickleodon from 1994-1998 called Gullah Gullah Island and produced locally here.

That and we all know we talk a little funny down here.
