So my 3.5 year old decided on what was, for him, an epic journey this evening. He wanted to ride from our house to a local MUP and back, a round trip of about 3 miles with one climb on the way there and one on the way back (ok, climbs to him). Towards the top of the first hill, he stands up on the pedals and says, "daddy, I'm dancing on the pedals!" I laughed, I cried. Here is his elevation profile:

As an aside, he has named all the hills in our neighborhood. The first that he went up this evening was "Firetruck hill." The second, (the big descent and the climb on the way back) is "James' hill" (James of Thomas the Tank Engine fame). We also have doughnut hill and sausage biscuit hill (don't ask).

I'll bite. (pun intended.....horribly)

I'd tackle both of those hills, and eat their namesakes afterwards.

Donut hill - either Homer Simpson or a cop shop....

Ah, the names are simple. We can get to our house any of about 4 ways. The kiddo prefers to take doughnut hill when we buy doughnuts, and sausage biscuit hill when we buy McDonald's breakfast. His favorite food in the world is the sausage on sausage biscuits from McDonald's.

When we leave the house, he specifies the route -- sausage biscuit hill is about a 1.2 mile out and back, dougnut hill is a 1.6 mile loop, and James' hill was first conquered tonight after many previous discussions and rides in the trailer to the MUP. We also have the "park ride" (about a 3 mile round trip punctuated by, you guessed it, a park). The hardest part is his little brother starts most rides riding on his tricycle which I can push, but quickly decides I should carry him. Adds to my workout :D

"daddy, I'm dancing on the pedals!"

better this than "He's crashed out of the Tour with a suspected broken collarbone!!"

Haha that's awesome!
Wishin' you both happy riding! Do you have a tag-along bike or something for him?

We do not -- I've looked at getting one, but am still waffling based on some good args on both sides. He does enjoy riding in the trailer on occasion now which, strangely enough, he did not like before he got his bicycle. The next purchase will be a new bike for him as his little 12" deal is a bit small for him.
