My seat seems to be dropping slowly but surely as I ride. The bike is two weeks old.

Do I need to be much more brutal than I have been on the bolt, or do I need to replace the bolt with a better part? Or is this a question that can't be answer without looking at the bike.

I would try tightening it more. Maybe try tightening it on the opposite side you've been tightening.

get some fine grit sandpaper (500'ish) and rough up the surface of the inside of the seat-tube and seatpost where it drops into the tube slightly. That will help them grip better. Don't over tighten the bolt.

Seatpost slippage is common on a new bike, like yours.

Thanks much for the advice.

I will get some sandpaper this afternoon. When I removed the seatpost from the seattube in preparation, I noticed that there is a ton of thick white grease on the tube. Taking that off should help as well, I assume. I am happy to know that I should not go nuts trying to tighten it.

Ya, the grease will do it. I bought a Jamis road frame in the spring and noticed the seatpost tube was greased, on a carbon frame. I thought it odd but once you clean it out it would be fine. If you still get slippage use some sandpaper.
