Mountain Biking - Trail recomendations in the North East?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I am planning a little road trip in the fall and was wondering if anyone could recomend any quality trails along the way. I live in Vermont, and am planning on heading south to New Jersey, then through West Verginia and then loop back up north. Here is a map to give you a rough idea of my plans. Any info you could share would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

There are some great trails at Kittatiny State Park in NW New Jersey; WV has LOADS of trails - what part of WV are you planning to hit?

On your way through New Jersey you could stop at Round Valley Recreation Area (http://www.state.nj.us/dep/parksandforests/parks/round.html) in Lebanon. It's my favorite place in the area to ride. Big climbs and nice singletrack.

Go a bit north of NYC instead of through it on your way to NJ. Miss some traffic and hit Blue Mountain (http://www.wmba.org/Maps.html) in peekskill on your way through.

You're in VT so I feel a little silly recommending Kingdom Trails but there you go.

In WV I think Snowshoe has the best DH and trails I know of. i was there for an atv/motorcycle race about 6 weeks ago, and the place was unreal!!!!!!! http://ride.snowshoemtn.com/

If you are coming through ohio I would suggest checking out West branch state park, and a few other places on this website http://www.camba.us/

Well, as you'll be coming in from the north, when you get on 68 East, stop by Cooper's Rock - they have a lovely little camping area, too. Then, head down to Canaan Valley - Stop in at Blackwater Bikes in Davis WV for the complete run down on the area's trails - it has just about everything! If you want to hit Snowshoe for the downhills, when you leave Canaan, go south to Elkins & hang a left at that 1st stop light to go to Snowshoe. The Slatyfork area has tons of trails, too, and that's in that area. In addition to Snowshoe - which has a free ride park, there are downhill trails at most of the ski resorts - Canaan, Timberline, Winterplace.

The WV race schedule for Aug/Sept looks like this (WVVUS= WV & VA Ultra Series cross country races 50+ miles) (WVMBA point series races are generally 10k for beginners, 20K for Sport, 30K for pro/expert):

In that case, check this link (http://bikeloft.com/page.cfm?pageID=38) out. It is the ride schedule for the local mountain bike club. Not that you need to go with the club but it would give you some good ideas for rocking trails in the area.

In addition to what they have listed, Green Lakes State Park has some really nice trails too. Here is a link (http://nysparks.state.ny.us/parks/info.asp?parkID=23) to that site though it doesn't describe the trails it will give you a location.

The spot I hit most is Great Bear.

Good luck and if you are at Great Bear on a Sunday morning there is a good chance of riding into me (lets hope not literally.)
