Well I go into work 2 hours late today. I walk in, and instantly there are 4 crises awaiting me that need urgent attention.
My parents actually got me a very nice gift:
A contract with a financial adviser. I meet with him next Monday I believe, and then for a year we will communicate periodically by phone. I am pleased, and hope to get some better return on my investments. Right now unfortunately, I have almost no money to invest. I just paid for my fall classes at UNH out of pocket :(. Parents said that if I pay for fall classes and do well, that they will give financial assistance to me for 2nd semester. I need to prove myself first.
In general, the whole year of me being 17 wasn't that great. But I think I am sort of getting to know where I want to go. I used to be sure I was to study engineering and there we go. Now though, I am thinking political activism might be something to pursue. In particular, environmentalism and energy independence/zero emission's stuff. Maybe something that is related to that
And how the hell does Gillete know it's my birthday?
Seriously, I got a package saying "18th birthday present from Gillete", and inside is a manual razor, extra blades, and cream. Little do they know, I am partial to electric razors.

Hope this year will be a great one, and that things will fall into place for you as far as what direction you wish to take in life at this point. :)

Oh c'mon, Vega, level with the poor fella and admit that it's perfectly normal not to have a clue what you want to do with your life at age 18. I mean, it is perfectly normal. No, really. I checked. Seriously. :p
Happy birthday, CowKid. Hope it's a great one. Neat gift your parents gave you, one that has the potential to really be the "gift that keeps on giving."
I hope your folks are setting some bucks aside for your last three and a half years of college. I have a sneeking suspicion they're going to on the hook for that. :D

DON'T FALL FOR IT, IT'S A TRAP!

After I gave that adviser my bank account number, credit card numbers, social security number, date of birth, mother's maiden name, and shoe size, she predicted financial ruin... and it happened!
Any way, I predict a stellar year ahead for you!

Well, they've been using this adviser for 15 years. He has done a really impressive job at making not a huge amount of money go a long way.

No, but you could put a 1" diameter end mill in my mill's spindle and have it do a circular interpolation, thus thoroughly mixing the batter.

Gillete still does that? Wow. Let's just say I got that package a longgggggggg time ago.

Hmm...that was six years ago for me. I still haven't figured out how they knew I was 18 or how my school figured out where I live to solicit money.
That was way back in the day when razors only had three blades. Technology has advanced so radically since then that razor makers are now able to mount five blades on a single head. It boggles my mind.
