Foo - I think I'm getting the black lung.

Damned forest fires.
We have 1-2 mile visibility because of the smoke. Training in this **** sucks!
Tell me. Sherman didn't burn us as badly as we got carbonized this year.
Not that there is nothing left the air is starting to clear a bit.

The news reports that our fires are only going to get worse. "Uncontainable" was the word the fire guy used.
Outdoor sports practices are being canceled. Sometimes I wish I had stuck with football or baseball.
I thought this was an organ transplant thread.

As if. My one lung holds more air than a normal person's pair.

My house isn't in danger thankfully... But I am sick of waking up everyday smelling like a sausage.
Hurricane, eh? My best friend moved to HI just in time to get sodomized by "Flossie". What a stupid name.

When I flew to Washington state from Denver the flightpath was over a portion of montana. Egads that was some serious smoke when we could see it from 33,000 feet up.

Not exactly what you need before this weekend, eh?

If you saw a big valley full of smoke and could sense "anger and scorn", you flew over my house.

I get done riding and I hack and cough for a while. Thinking about doing a circuit race tonight if they still put it on.

You sound like a Maybelline advertisement.
You're not actually riding out in that, are you? Please don't, its terrible for you.

Ah the abandoned smoke inhalation training regime. All of a sudden you are going to find yourself in the flatlands with smoke free air, not to mention the extra oxygen, and you are gonna drop killaP on a trike.
What doesnt kill you only makes you stronger..
(If I has smoky air around me I would curl up and cry like a little baby rather than train.. But we are not talking about me are we?)
I'm moving to Missoula in...
One week.
Apparently it's quite bad around there :(

It's bad all along the slope. Going to school in Missoula? If so, I am required by law (almost literally) to hate you. Sorry.

How about unpacking the trainer?..
I hear that KP is allergic to latex.. (I did ride the course a couple of years back on a rec ride.. Nice climbs)

Hmm... maybe this should go in the "Reasons not to move to Canada" thread, no blacklung OR hurricanes :D

From the second I stepped into my doctor's office for the first time, it was only 23 hours before I was in post-op recovering from knee surgery. It wasn't an emergency situation either, just a routine clean-up.
Stick THAT in your Canadian pipe and smoke it!

A 3M half face respirator available at the nearest hardware store will work wonders for smoke with the organic filters that come with it. If I can ride for 40 miles at a time with a mask on, I bet you can too. Granted the rare air in the mountains will make it a pain in the ass, but hey, better training, and no coughing.

Depends where and when you go in Canada. I spent 5hrs in the E.R. yesterday after being brought in by an ambulance. A few years back I broke my leg rock climbing in Lake Louise. Was in and out of the hospital ( x-rays and air cast) in 40 min. Problem is alot of times the waiting room is clogged with people with non-emergencies. Ahhhh...but I digress.
Would't a respirator almost be a training aid if it restricts your O2 intake? This way when you are off the respirator, you would be able to process more oxygen? I have seen climbing training aids that restrict oxygen intake, maybe this would be the same principal?

When you're training, you want as much O2 as possible. It's when you're not training that a lack of oxygen helps. Work the muscles harder with more O2, then let your body rebuild thinking that it needs more RBC's.

That explains the sudden chill and sense of panic. :p
