is the Trek 7.5 FX a good bike for touring using painners, or a trailer, I have used painners before, but am thinking of buying a trailer

My wife uses the 7.2 Fx (WSD) for touring with panniers no problem. Check out our site for more info.

My husband and I have been outfitting our TREK FX bikes for a Sept. tour in Spain which will include lots of dirt/rock paths. His is a 7.3 and mine a 7.5 WSD (I needed the 13" WSD so had to get a 7.2 or 7.5 and went with the better components on the 7.5.) We've lowered the gearing a bit, added racks (OldManMountain racks ordered on the net fit the bike geometry well, without bending any extension bars) and Ortlieb panniers. This week I'm shopping for the perfect bar ends to give us another hand position.

We usually tour on road bikes, and these feel very heavy and cumbersome in comparison. Unless you know you need some off-road capability, I'd go with a lighter, drop-bar road model instead. If you'll be doing some paths, the FX should be great. I'll know a lot more by Sept 30 when we return!
