Mountain Biking - mountain biking thought expiriment.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I will probably need to be leaving the world of graduate school and getting one of the "real jobs". As such I need to start thinking about where I want to live. I was wondering what you folks have to say about locations good for biking here is what I would like.

1 good local bike shops
2 good selection of trails in driving distance
3 good racing scene within several hours.

Importantly, close enough to an urban center where I can find a job.

Bay Area, CA
Choose Berkeley or Alameda. They are the most green cities in the Bay Area in my opinion. They are both quite bicycle friendly.

The Denver metro area is killer for all of these.

Look for cities with doctoral programs - -that's the only 'real job' suited to people with masters degrees.

Saddly this is my PhD, I can't reasonably go to school any longer...Oh, then you really are in a pickle . . . you have gone all the way and have left yourself with no marketable job skills. You will be limited to cities with major research universities.

Ah yes, the difficult transition from academia to the real world. There's always law school.
