Has anybody done this ride?

It looks like a great ride, 100 miles with 10,000+ ft of climbing. It starts and ends in North Fork, just south of Yosemite, about 4 hours north of LA. I thinking about doing it with some friends, but I would like to hear from anyone who has done the ride what it is like. SAG, route, etc.

Here is a link to the ride:

I have not, but from every rider I've ever talked to who has, I've heard it is an amazing yet challenging ride (duh). :)

I have done this century twice and may go again this year. It's my favorite , great food , spectacular route, a breakfast and a dinner afterwards and even a free t-shirt. Go.

Valleygirl,

Where is a good place to stay up there? Do you usually drive back to SoCal after the ride or do you spend another night?

We stayed in Oakhurst and for 2 nights. You can drive home the day of the event, if you have the energy.
It's a nice area so I figured there was no rush to get home. Also there is camping at Bass lake.

Great ride!! Excellent support!! The route is spectacular!! The average altitude for the day is 5,000' with the top of Cold Springs at 8,400'. I'm not doing it this year but I would highly recommend it if you're up to the climbing. Plenty of rooms in Oakhurst, about 20-30 minutes from the start.

Highly recomended. I did 60 miles of it last year...right up to the point my 585 and I got up close and personal with a concrete bridge. If you go to the site and open the newsletter it has a photo of the bridge with the caption to watch those expansion joints. I am lucky I didn't end up in the canyon on the right side.

I will be going back this year and plan on doing the entire ride with no unplanned stops. Honestly this is about the longest stretch of low traffic scenic mountain highway you are likely to find in California. Most of it occurs on a roads that have no reason for existence other than to travel through great scenery. As mentioned above the support is first rate, as is the medical support!

Lee, my friends Vicki and Orrie will be there. You'll remember them from Angeles Crest.
