Hey ho:
Joined the forum because I've been biking to my pottery studio in the eves, get home after dark and realized.. whoa. Biking without lights in the dark! (quiet roads... but still) So I started looking for light recommendations, then one thing led to another... thanks for a lot of help already. Glad to be biking in Ma. and saving petrol, too.

Welcome mulchie. Check the lighting sticky in the Commuting forum. Lots of good info on staying visible at night. Good luck and post pics of your pottery.

Hello mulchie--yes, we need to see photos of both the pottery AND the bike, please :D .

Welcome to BF!

My pottery?
Well, okay, since you ask. These are from my first firing (long lapse). I've moved on to porcelain now which is where I am more at home. It's beautiful material to work with. Very silky. Very different.
Hope I figured out how to upload properly. But we'll see.
I'll put bike pics up tomorrow. Don't have one now.
But here's the Giant FCR - 2 that I am really falling for.

Are you a teapot specialist? I am not a coffee drinker, but I do need my cuppa every few hours :) .

You'll have to show us some porcelain photos, too. That must have been a huge firing, I especially like the red-brown glazed teapot.

Hi East (but aren't you out west?):
Not a teapot specialist. A serious tea drinker returning to pottery after 30 years and now making porcelain jars which I'll post later.... Have you tried Upton teas? Very nice company here in Mass. Excellent teas.
BUT on to more important things.
the old, the new....
be well
ride safely,

The name stems from being on the East hill of Kent, versus being on the West hill, or the Kent Valley...

I have not heard of Upton Teas, I'll have to do some googling later.

It looks as if you are ready to do some commuting there (although I still don't see lights :D ).

Hi Mulchie,

I know this forum is for introductions only but I wanted to offer a quick link to the Massachusetts Bicycle Coalition website at http://www.massbike.org/. They have a page (http://www.massbike.org/bikelaw/)summarizing laws for bicyclists here in the Commonwealth, including requirements for lights. I referred to this info. as I was outfitting my bike for night riding recently.

And if you haven't come across it in the Commuting forum, there's a cool thread on "stealth reflectors," which seem to me like a nice idea.

Happy BFing!

THanks, NJM.
That's really useful. I was thinking I need to check in on Ma. laws. And I'll look up the stealth reflectors, too.
What kind of night riding are you doing?
Mine is out on quiet roads, though there's a stretch by Walden Pond that's got no bike paths and a little hair raising. I'm looking at Planet Bike Blinkies, Cateye 410 and something called the fenix (essentially a bright flashlight you can attach to the handlebars.) I have found some really great info on the lights section.
