"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - You can't tell me to flip it anymore...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

...because I just took it to the extreme. I was having a hard time getting enough drop on my TT bike, so I got a new stem... The result?

For something in the neighborhood of 8-9" of drop. -35 degree 110mm Dimension stem. Strange as it sounds, it's almost as comfortable as the old position, and because I didn't change leg/hip positioning, power didn't seem to drop when I rode it today.

OK OCPer's... Good enough for you?

Flip it dude (I think it has more than one meaning).

That's pretty cool. If it ever snows here, your lower lip can plow it ;)

I'll bet that rounds out your back pretty nicely though for a good hemet/back fit.

Nice. You have a link for that stem online?

Did you cannibalize that Specialized in the background?
Nice looking bike, with SRM and all. :)

Flip the seatpost mast to the TT position -if you fit in that config, then that frame is the wrong size for you.

FWIW, UT's coach is the new 2007 TX state TT champ, and king of fit...

It does seem odd to see the saddle all the way back on laid-back seatpost in a TT position though. I guess a bigger frame would undo some of that aft saddle positioning, but would result in more stem drop, no?

Stem Link (http://store.airbomb.com/ItemDesc.asp?IC=SM2912)

It's all about the Saddle-BB position relationship. My reach to the bars is at the UCI limit (it had to be at one point). A larger size would involve a longer headtube, which when you're going for more drop, is bad.

But more drop is not always better, at some point, biomechanics trumps aero.

My mistake , I thought that was a Team soloist, not a P2.

You can actually still flip the top part around on the P2's, but we didn't need to to get the saddle in the right place. We fit the saddle first, and then adjusted the bars after the saddle had been set.

You're right, at some point it does, but I was still pretty upright before I switched it. We'll find out on Tuesday after some testing, I guess.

Insanely cool job on the bar tape, btw.

Okay, this might be too much math, but if I have a 72 degree headtube, then to get a stem that's parallel to the ground, I need a 18/108 degree stem, right?

No, the Specialized isn't being cannibalized -- it's my road bike. The road bike and the TT bike share cranks and wheels.

I hate the bar tape, it's some sticky rubbery stuff from Bontrager. I'm going back to Fizik tape as soon as it dies.

I guess you would need that, yeah. I never thought you needed a stem with that much...well...anyways.
