I have a set of Spinergy Xaeros (the first version I guess). Apparently I have a reoccurring problem with my rear wheel. I hear a creaking noise coming from the rear axle/cassette area. One year ago when I experienced this I took the wheel in to the shop and they had to replace the entire rear hub assembly. Finally after 3 months I got my wheel back and the creaking was rare but not as persistent before I took it in.

Well the persistent creaking is back. I took it back to the shop. We pulled the freehub and saw that there are metal filings on the axle (apparently from the freehub assembly rubbing against the axle. Furthermore, I don't like the way Spinergy designed the cap to screw down onto the axle, keeping the freehub on the axle; apparently the cap has to be tighten at the right tension, too tight the freehub binds, too loose the freehub/cassette wobbles like crazy. I guess in Spinergy's haste to make a light/cheaper wheel, they apparently cut corners on their freehub/axle design.

Anybody ever experience this problem with you Spinergy rear wheel? If so how did you resolve the issue? Any other recommendations? It would be a shame if I have to trash them because of this.

I think I have the same wheel....no problems here. Sorry to hear of your problems because IMO these are sweet wheels.

I think some people at www.roadbikereview.com mentioned this same thing. You may want to check it out what they had to say.

Ditch the Spinergys or use them as a second set of wheels. If they are your only wheels your bike will be down a long time - Spinergy's customer service SUCKS!

You are lucky your LBS was willing to get Spinergy to fix them for you. I own the Spinergy SR3's and had some noise in my rear hub. The shop I bought my bike from refused to even call Spinergy because they had such lousy service from them in the past! (My bike was only a month old). I called them myself and they gave me the fix over the phone. Fortunatly it wasn't as serious as what you have described and I was able to fix it myself.

Recently I started having trouble with the rear wheel again (different problem). The LBS I took it to (different one from the jackass I bought the bike from) said that I'd better be prepared to be without my wheel for a couple of months if I wanted Spinergy to fix it.

My advice would be to buy a different wheelset and use the Spinergy wheels as a spare.

Good luck!

Same story here with Spinergy. I just sold my last set. Great wheels when they are working but is a pain when you need any work done on them.
