Mountain Biking - Another new bike for me! Yay! Pictures Inside

Ok so, some of you may have remembered me posting my new bike last week. Well after buying my new cranks and bottom bracket, got home and pulled off my bottom bracket to reveal that it was only half way threaded! So i took the bike back in ( Performance ) and they swapped me out right on the spot for the upgraded ( Hayes Sole Hydraulic Disc F/R, Rear Air Shock, Sram 9 Components ) Warrior LE. I was pretty dang satisfied that they actually swapped me out for an upgraded/more expensive bike right on the spot. They also offered to swap out my cranks and BB for me free of charge. I love the customer service at Performance. The guys that work there are awesome!

I run those also and really like them so far. Good on hardpack, mud, and not terrible on paved sections either considering the off-road traction. You can really lean into sharp turns with confidence with these tires. I can't comment on the longevity having only had these for a couple hundred miles.

Do they feel heavy when you ride them? I've heard alot of comments on them being heavy and the tread slows you down way too much.... Or is that just a comment of the recreational weight weanies that doesn't have strong legs?

There are several versions of those tires: Japanese, Taiwanese, wire and flooding. Not to mention 2.3's for AM peeps. The Taiwanese version are heavier as are the wire bead ones.

I run PSI pretty high around 37-42 (especially since we have been in drought conditions) and am happy with the rolling resistance. They are fine at lower levels too.

If you only ride dry trails and hardpacked surfaces, you'll be better off with a faster less aggressive tread.

It is always a compromise: speed, traction, rolling resistance, durability, cost...

Tanks have treads and turrets. I see no treads or turrets. Therefore, no tank.

honest question. why so much emphasis on taking off the reflectors. I have seen it in many other posts.

Is it just because of the looks. or does it have a functional reason behind it? just curious?

also, if the reflectors have negative functional effects, why do bike companies, even the very reputable ones, put reflectors on their bikes. would any of you please care to reflect on this.

Bikes come with them because they're required by law. People advise removal because otherwise the reflectors will fall off and litter the trails. If visibility at night is a concern, there are other, more effective options available, e.g. reflective tape.

That's true, but I see 25 empty Gu packets on the trail for every 1 reflector...

Regardless, it's a bad idea to attach gu packets to your spokes also.
