Is there a quality folder available that will, with not too much extra disassembly, fit into a suit case the size airlines will allow without extra service charges. I do a lot of traveling and understand the max limit on size is 10"+26"+26". I like the birdy but am not sure it can be made to fit. I've ridden a brompton but for me it did not seem to handle in a way that suits my tastes. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

J. Gaerlan writes that the Birdy will fit into a Samsonite Oyster. Check his website for details.

The airlines aren't big sticklers for dimensions so 65-70 linear inches should be fine. Just don't go over the weight limit.

I agree that they are more likely to catch a traveler with the weight limit than size. Moreover, I have never heard of someone paying oversize fees with the Samsonite F'Lite (64 linear inches).

Yep... All I know is, every time I bring my folding bike in a suitcase to the airport, they always weigh it and have never broken out the tape measure. ;)

Then again, they also don't charge the bike fees half the time either.

In reference to the OP, are you looking for a folding bicycle or one that fits into a flight legal case?

As Bacc and I mentioned earlier, we think that you will be fine with a folding bike that (easily) fits into the F'light which leaves open Bike Friday and just about all of the folding bikes discussed on the forum. I don't recall what the case size is for the Airnimal; but that is another high quality folder.

If you don't need to fold a bike, you might want to consider a S&S Coupler bike. That fits into a flight legal suitcase as well.

Thanks for the great response guys. To answer invisiblehand, well I all I wish is to take a bike along with me on my trips. I don't think I'm up for a bike with S&S couplers as I believe it takes too much time to set them up. I'll be looking into both the O'yster and Flite suit cases mentioned above, one of them may be the solution. Thanks again.

No problem NWrider.

Just to confirm your S&S coupler belief, from trading stories in the local cycling club, they typically report 45 minute setup times.

During the last trip, I set up (and broke down) two Bike Fridays in less time.
