Font: * * * * OAKLAND, CA - San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds has reportedly hired legal counsel to aggressively pursue those who make false statements about his alleged steroid use and tax evasion.

The Oakland Tribune's web site, InsideBayArea.com, reported on Tuesday that Bonds has hired attorneys John Burris and Todd Schneider to defend him against false statements made by private citizens.

According to Burris, Bonds does not intend to go after media publications or stymie free speech, rather he wants to stop those who might think they know something from telling a false story.

"Barry is basically saying that he has been kicked around a lot and he is tired of being kicked around," Burris said to the paper. "Our issue is really about statements that are made that are attributed to him that are not true. Particularly, statements that someone might say he made about the use of steroids or tax evasion."

Bonds apparently purposely waited until after he broke the home run record to fight back because he felt that it was more prudent to remain silent.

Bonds enters Tuesday's action with 758 career home runs, three more than Hank Aaron for the all-time lead. He has 24 homers this season, hitting .282 with 56 RBI and 63 runs scored in 103 games this season. The slugger also holds the single-season home run record, belting 73 long balls during the 2001 season.

Barry is a POS in my opinion.

this is the part that kills me -

"Barry is basically saying that he has been kicked around a lot and he is tired of being kicked around," Burris said to the paper. "Our issue is really about statements that are made that are attributed to him that are not true. Particularly, statements that someone might say he made about the use of steroids or tax evasion."

he has done both.

Be a real man and confess(to the public, not just the court)....Please.

The great thing about this thread is that if there was an internet in the early twentieth century, they'd all be calling Ty Cobb a P.O.S.

Talk about a loathesome player!

There will always be those incredibly gifted few who are full of arrogance, hubris, macho womanizing, etc., in high level sport. Barry's not unique.

I believe the photo in question is showing Kurt Schelling (sp) when he was playing with a hurt and bleeding ankle and that he had to take pain meds in order to play. See if you can see the blood in/on his sock.
Someone will correct me if I am wrong.

It's actually alarming how many Giants fans have turned against Bonds over the past few months.

I wonder where he will end up next season? Which team(s) can afford a possible DH who costs too much and comes with so much baggage?

There was the recent rumor that it was not blood but ketchep that Schilling put on between innings. The he was just trying to play up his injury. I don't buy it, I think it was legit.

Sorry, I'm kind of out of the loop. Can someone fill me in on the significance of this photo? Thanks. That is a photo of Curt Schilling's ankle after it was surgically repaired after he injured the ligament in the playoffs against the Angels in 2004.

In game 1 of the 2004 ALCS he had his ankle numbed with pain killers, but he was unable to pitch effectively.

For game 5 Of the ALCS the ligament was stiched to the one next to it, so that it wouldn't move over the bone . the bloody sock is now in the baseball hall of fame.

As far as the ketchup rumors, that was a joke made by former Red Sox 1st baseman Kevin Millar before facing the Red Sox with his new team. Millar is a known joker, and was the one who suggested that the Sox all have a shot of Jack Daniels before games 4-7 of the 2004 ALCS against the Yankees.

Choke, the offical soft drink of the Yankees.

My dad is a big Ted Williams fan too. When I played Little League, my dad would send me to a Ted Williams hitting camp for a week every summer.

Love of baseball is just about the only thing my dad and I have in common, and the only thing we don't argue about when we get to spend some time together. The Sox even won the 2004 World Series on his 77th birthday(the only time I've seen him cry).
