I'm looking to sell my standard upright trike and either pick up a trailer for my Bike-E semi-bent or find a suitable cargo-bent. In looking at trailers, I've discovered most utility trailers will not mount on my bent so I will either need to have someone modify the hitch or I can look for a bent cargo bike. Anyone ever heard of such a thing? Know where I can find one? Or, anyone know of trailers that will connect to a Bike-E?

Back when Bike-E was still in business, they marketed an adapter of some sort for trailer hitches. Could you fabricate something that bolted to the axle?

This brand is distributed in Canada by this guy in Kitchener

The mount wasn't clear on their stoopid slide show, but I suspect it wouldn't work with a Bike-E, which used a Sachs 3x7 rear hub. Not only is the 3x7 hub a non-quick release, but the shift chain on the drive side must be kept clear, meaning to work with a Bike-E, a trailer should mount on the left side only.

Could the BOB mount work?

Alternatively, could a modified Pintle Mount be set up on the frame beam?

I bought the Croozer trailer which fits fine ,,, check out urbane , I know they have a croozer cargo trailer that you could look at for the hitch system

Thanks flor the suggestions, folks, in particular about the Croozer trailer. It seems the gods of coincidences were on my side as my newspaper assigned me to cover a story at a park yesterday that is mere steps from the co-op where I bought my BikeE and where I've been looking at trailers. The shop had a small set-up on display: a Bakfiets and a commuter bike equipped with...you guessed it...the Croozer trailer. I was able to quickly determine that the hitch would, indeed, mount on my BikeE. So, I have made my deicision and that is what I am going to get just as soon as someone buys my Raleigh trike. So, if anyone in Toronto is looking for a trike...message me.

the really cool thing with the croozer trailer is that it folds flat and the wheels and trailer arm come off for storage,, when shoping you can lock the trailer to the bike and take the wheels with you, I also can use the Croozer for walk about shopping too , the hitch arm has two positions # one for bike # one for walking.......... http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7364/791/1600/%202.3.jpg http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7364/791/1600/%201.4.jpg http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/7364/791/1600/2005_0825Aug26criticalmassrid0006.jpg

Could the BOB mount work?

YES! I used a B.O.B. trailer on my Hurricane (same 3x7 rear wheel as the BikeE).

There are replacement nuts for the 3x7 axle that have the groove for the BOB trailer dropouts.

And the single wheeled BOB was a perfect trailer for my sporty lil' Hurri!

Incidentally, I did find some rather interesting semi-recumbent tandem cargo bikes online. Just Google and you'll find them.

The Xtracycle Free Radical will fit on some recumbents. They have pictures.

Human Powered Machines has a cargo tricumbent.

Their site did not give me an URL that I could link back to (top of page #8 of the "Real Load" section of their gallery).

Here's the image (I could find the url to that):
