Who's going to be in town? I'm going to put this out there, just to see what kind of interest we have in a Labor Day ride. The last 4th of July ride we had was pretty nice. It went up Hwy 9 to Skyline, then over to Page Mill, then back ... nice 35 miler, and got back just in time to spend the rest of the day with our families.

As an added bonus, taxi777 is volunteering to SAG for us. Now how could you pass that one up? He'll also be the roving photographer ... thanks a lot taxi777.

Starting Location: Parking Lot by Chain Reaction Bike Shop, corner of Homestead and Foothill Expy in Los Altos

If I'm around (likely) I'd be up for the 9>Skyline>Page Mill run.

Awesome ... here's the route.

http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Big-Basin-Skyline-Kings-Mtn-Loop

Last time we did this, we didn't go all the way. We hung a right on Page Mill instead of going all the way to Kings Mountain. We can play it by ear again. By then, everyone who put in orders for the first wave of jerseys should have them. Let's wear them on the ride, and show them who we are.

aww...now why does everyone have to make me feel bad about not ordering that jersey.

I should be around for this. I rode with T4MV on Saturday on about the same route. There is no way I would have been able to hack that other climb from 35 to the right turn on Kings in the heat of that July 4 day.

Now this ride is on Labor Day, Monday 9/3 correct?

I'm going to try.

Just wondering. Is there a no drop policy on your rides? I'm fat, slow, and I smell. Just an FYI.

Always something.... sigh.

I've never ridden down there. Can you give a total mileage and an elevation profile for the route you posted?

Would it change your mind if I said it looked yellow and black? It'd be great if you were a Pirates fan..:D

No worries, jinws, I don't have one either. We'll just be the lantern rouge, picking up Jon's underwear as he discards them along the ride...

In bikely, you can click on "Show", then "Elevation Profile" to see it. Here's a screenshot.

So it looks like about 55 miles, 5600 feet climbing.

The blue is so dark it does look kinda black unless the light hits it just right.
BTW, the 2nd reorder is still open in case you change your mind.

Thanks I didn't see that feature. I'm not sure about my schedule (may have to work that day), so put me down as a maybe. But remember I'm sloooow, anyone else competing with me for last in line?

Judging by some of the stuff I've seen Jon wearing in pictures here, I doubt if there is such a thing as a shirt he wouldn't wear...

Yes, me. I may be able to do distance, but I am not a speed demon, especially if it's going up a hill.

lol...now I'm really glad I have latex gloves in my pack. but seriously though, if I had anything that goes with yellow, I would have ordered. It looks great. If you guys ever design something in red and black, I'm all over it.

I bet I'm fatter than you ... just don't make this into a fat thread. Anyways, we'll be outdoors, so odor won't matter. It is a no drop ride, which will mean we will be regrouping at the top of the climb.

No need to pic up my underbridges. They are edible, which also means biodegradable.

I don't think I'll have the jersey by then, but I'll plan to join the ride either somewhere on Hwy 9 or Pierce, depending on how early you start. I'll probably head down 84 to the coast just like I did on the 4th.

I forgot to tell you the start time and location. It will be just like before ... start time at 9 am, and leaves from the parking lot by Chain Reaction, corner of Homestead and Foothill Expressway. If you get there early, there's also a Peet's Coffee there too.

And a Carvel Ice Cream next door to the Chain Reaction, how can you go wrong ?

(unless it's closed on Labor Day  )

They weren't closed on the 4th of July, so I would guess they would be open on Labor Day.

ok, so I don't usually ride in the South Bay. Is this a tough route? We actually biked to Kings a few months ago from SF, and turned around less than a mile up that road. Didn't feel like tackling it with such a long ride back.

I did Old La Honda road for the first time on sat and it was tough. Granny geared all the way up. I was told that was only 2.9 miles. Should I be worried about this ride?

I most likely will be able to attend. Sounds good and looking forward to another dose of grueling riding..
Please add me to the maybe part of the roster.

Where do you usually ride? The big hill is Congress Springs Rd, or Hwy 9. It is a climb, and there are some portions that require you to downshift. It is not as tough as King's Mountain Road, IMHO. There is more shade than King's, but longer than Old La Honda.

we usually do Marin headlands, left side of the bridge. then down to Tiburon and back up to the city.

Now that's a pretty ride! I've only done it once, but was knocked out by the view - I almost went right off the road on the descent.
