im trying to get a brake caliper that will be short enough so it can fit a 700c wheel on a 26" fork. i tried just the regular calipers but they seem to be a cm or two too long. can some some help on what i should be loooking for. other then a 26" wheel.

Rim brake calipers may not exist to do what you want. If you are sure that the 700c wheel with tire will clear the fork crown you could consider disc brakes. Then you will need disc mounts on the fork and a disc hub for the 700c rim. Some cyclocross bikes and I believe the Jamis Coda do this.

A Shimano 105 with the pads pushed all the way to the top won't fit? I'm using one on my Fuji track bike with only about a mm or two of clearance with 700x23 tires.
