Hello guys see this new chain set up.Thats not my cycle also.Its borrowed from the net,and its just a proposed idea,so what do u geniuses suggest me if its good or just boo me out..Will This work out or not? .Cos i am into building a ebike..so please guys i need a good suggestion.. Yes you may suggest me that I could mount the motor on the carrier, but in my cycle the distance is too much and i am having my own ideas for the carries , thinking of a safe for the batteries.Sorry the picture is real shoddy !

I see some problems:
1. The motor should be pulling on the chainring, not pushing on it. What you have would throw the chain any time the pedaling slowed down.
2. There is no way to ride this bike and not get covered in chain lube.

so wont you think that the cycle wont move with this set up... i mounted the motor on the seat tube cos the peddling would be easy.So where do u suggest me , to fix the motor?

Oh, it should move, it will just throw the chain a lot and get the rider very dirty. The motor needs to be after , or pulling on, the chainring. Then, if there is a momentary driveline bounce it will be taken up by the derailer springs.

with an external motor, the onlyb real options are the chainstay, or that area, and to mount th emotor somewhere out of the wy, like the rear rack, and use some chain driven monkeywork to take the powe to a drive sproket on the chainstay or attached to the rear hub.

EbikeHawai is probably a good source on information regarding remote mounted motors.

Hrm, this setup could be made to work, I can think of two ways:

1: A freewheeling crank would allow to stop pedaling with the motor spinning, without throwing the chain/ruining the dérailleur.

2: Go SS or hub gears at the back, and have the chain tension dialed in via motor mounts (that bike has vertical dropouts).


I would see this better with a second chainring on the non-drive side, stokemonkey style.

WHAT IS THE LINK TO EBIKEHAWAI A direct drive to a hub freewheel by chain is the most efficient providing your motor is strong enough.

hello JeanCoutu..
i saw you designs from the page http://clevercycles.com/bike/xt/xtravois.html.I have a small doubt if i could use a regular motor other than the hub motor what you have shown.I am from India and e bikess in here is still in the development stage.,forget hub motors.
Or can i use a plain bike without those gears at the rear as shown by EbikeHawaii and have my set up built?
