.. Peanut Butter Buttocks injections. Seriously this stuff sucks. I got 5 2.5cc injections (right and left shoulder, right and left buttock, right thigh) and now I alternately want to vomit, cramp up, and sleep. Rabies is teh lame.
How the heck did you wind up needing the shots?
Did you get bitten? Because I dont remember the prevention vaccine being that bad at all
Are you ok?

I was bitten by a bat (again) two nights ago. In addition to the normal vaccine (the red syringe) they gave me 4 shots of something-something-globbin (clear syringes) that they had to inject into "meaty" areas. Im terrible at getting shots so of course I tensed right up when the needle went into my butt and now I am all sore and a bit nauseous (though I am totally OK).

What kind of bat?
Good thing you didn't need it injected in your stomach, like my buddy from elementary who was bitten by a fox in 1977.
Glad you made it, btw. Rabies is a nasty way to die.

A small bat. They stopped doing the stomach injections a while back, but that is essentially what I got (broke into 4 injections + the vaccine). Rabies is interesting, you can be bitten and then completely heal and then a month later develop symptoms. By the time you get symptoms you can basically expect to die, so always get your rabies shots!

Its a horrible, horrible way to die too.
The shots are much better.

The clear syringes were Gamma-Globulin

Yes there is one case where the girl survived after symptoms. Most people dont die from brain degeneration, but from some sort of brain failure, so they put her in a coma and on life support and administered antivirals for a while. Unfortunately this treatment has not be able to be replicated successfully.
Are you scared of bats now?
Honestly, how many people are actually scared of bats? THEY EAT BUGS FOR ****S SAKE!

So did they do a test on the bat that bit you and found out it had rabies, or is this just precautionary, asher?
Can one get preventative rabies vaccines?

There are only six reported cases of a person surviving rabies after the onset of symptoms.
You're lucky to be alive dude!!

heh, I guess I should be.
Anyone know if the rabies vaccinations I get right now will protect me for a long time against rabies? If so I can play with bats again!

Thats the thing, there really isnt a recovery, because there is nothing to recover from. Rabies shots are completely preemptive of symptoms. If you get symptoms, there generally is no recovery. The chances that the bats that bit me actually having rabies are exceedingly low, but its a better safe than sorry thing (as I did not kill the bat to have it tested).

No, it won't.
