i'd like to lobby for black. it goes with everything, and the gaps won't be obvious when i wrap the frame with electrical tape.

Two questions:

1. If you're going to wrap it then who cares what color it is?

2. do you know there's different colored electric tape?

Also, for all of you shoutin' colors. Fine, battle away, but if it isn't on my master list then it doesn't get considered! e-mail me!

When suggesting a color, it might be useful to post a picture of the color.

Molteni Orange: http://www.raydobbins.com/molteni_replica/molteni_replica.htm
Espresso Brown: Is that like the coppery colour on the Jamis Aurora? If so, +1.

Maybe something like the Kilo TT green, or darker:

I just sent them a message on www.irofixedgear.com using their contact page.

You guys realize the first round of the color debate is happening via email, right? As in an email to climbhoser, the guy setting this up, and not IRO?

I don't want to be all nancy about this but Adam is the one who got this rolling so to keep things organized and as a courtesy we ought to follow his method for determining the color and he'd like everyone who has a favorite color to email him with that color. It doesn't look like he's going to pull suggestions from the forum.

[This color is close to my vote, though I'd prefer a more lime green w/ flake or pearlescent:]

Yeah the first round is by email, but I like seeing the ideas here. I'll send my vote tonight though.

The 2007 jake the snake is a nice lime green I think: http://www.jimsbicycleshop.com/images/KonaJakeTheSnakeCycleCross.gif

I also like the 2004 colour:

1. well, i like black. except for my Bianchi (celeste), all the bikes i ride are black. i'll probably get a set of S&S couplers retrofitted eventually and have it painted black then (if i can't get it black now). but i'd like it in black. just like my last two cars.

i've got issues, sorry.

2. yeah, i've got a roll of almost neon yellow that i've been trying to use up for the longest time with little success. driving me buggy.

When you say "master list" are you referring to the reference to the Crayola box in your most recent email?

If so, here's a chart of the current colors: http://www.crayola.com/colorcensus/history/current_120_colors.cfm

I think I'm going to cast my vote for "Asparagus" although "Banana Mania" is also pretty tempting.:)

I like the look of British Racing Green myself :D

As for black, it's plain, but I guess it would be a good color if you're shooting for stealth.

I really don't care what color everybody else settles on, just offering my opinions. Well, actually, I don't want pink, but anything else is fine with me. Whaddya expect from a guy, huh? :p

I mean master list in reference to the votes being cast. If you don't e-mail me and get on my master list then your color preference won't be counted in the battle. I'd hate in a couple of days to e-mail my list out and have people e-mailing me back: "no, wait, what about dung brown or piss yellow!" It's not fair to everyone else.

So, e-mail me your pick.

No, rear brake mounts will come on it. This is the original Rob Roy. For this price put a Rohloff on her and have the best bike evar!

Not so much a battle as brainstorming for good ideas. Nobody's going to shout down anyone else's preference, but hopefully we'll get each other considering the possibilities.

With 60 people voting I could easily see there being 9 nominated colors with the two winning colors having maybe 8-10 votes each, whereas with a little discussion we could get some consensus picks that even more people are happy with.

That said, the standard blue is not at all bad (some people have expressed a preference for that and I kinda like it), that Molteni Orange with white decals would look pretty darn snazzy as well.

I suppose there should be two rounds of voting but Adam should get to do it however he wants as he is doing most of the work.

I voted British Racing Green.

Molteni Orange #2

For me as well. As I mentioned in the email, I am in for two of them.

TimJ
08-22-07, 11:22 AM
Yeah, kawasaki green. John Deere green is nice too. I think both, and what I'd like, all sort of fall into the "lime" green territory. I really love the color of those old green schwinn varsity's and they're some shade of lime too. A very subtle metal flake or pearlescent finish would be extra awesome. I know IRO has done a pearlescent orange before and it looks really nice.

Just make sure to email your #1 choice.

Actually the color wasn't super important to me when I signed up, I like the blue and assumed that'd be it, but since there's a choice I might as well lobby for the beauty of lime green.

My only hope is the choices don't end up black and white. I like color, dammit!

Well, I put my vote in for a lime/sour apple green, thinking I should get it in there in case no one else was thinking along those lines. Guess there wasn't any danger of that...

again, like on the first IRO GB(which I got in), the colors are not really a matter of choice, unless you want the price to go up.

We will be choosing from a choice of colors the factory has available. So specific colors like San Rensho Blue:rolleyes: are out, unless they have a color that is close to it.

So get a consensus of just straight colors and he will show a swatch of what's available.

rocks in head
08-22-07, 01:32 PM
hmmm... so the only colors we know how they look are blue, white, and black... unless we can somehow get a color swatch, it seems like it's kind of choosing blind. I tend to like colors a little more dull (earthy tone?) than the very bright colors, such as the blue on the stock Rob Roy.

I think an orange frame would look great, especially paired with some white deep v's!

check out this guy's rob roy, it was powder coated orange but you can tell what the end result would look like

Mine's going to be a super all-weather fixed commute beast during the week. And on the weekends, I'll take it up to Tahoe and flip it over to a nice big freewheel.

If these frames aren't going to be upgraded to the Dedacciai COM12.5 steel, I'm just going to order a stock Rob Roy and eschew the 3 month wait.

If so, however, there is one frame mod I'd like to see: clearance for 44s.

I'm pretty much indifferent toward the color. If anything, I'd rather it wasn't too loud or flashy.

Joke?

The original group-buy frames were of Dedacciai COM12.5...

As for the extra tire clearance- Adam did mention the possibility of frame mods.

why 44s they aren't legal for racing if you want tires that wide get a 29er

Why 44s? They aren't legal for racing.

Which is to assume everyone's going to be racing these things? I kind of doubt that.

If you don't want to run 44s, you don't have to. What's wrong with having the option? It can only stand to make the frame more versatile. What, if any, are the disadvantages?

If you want tires that wide, get a 29er.

Thanks for the, er, suggestion, but I'd rather not.

I couldn't agree more. I actually saved this to my folder of bike pictures when it was first posted like a year ago. I think it's one of the best looking bikes I've ever seen, and I'd love to build myself something like that.
