Hi,
this being the middle of summer, a Mainer's mind turns naturally to winter. Which is, after all, a couple days away up here (Ok, so I'm paranoid, nuts, wacko, you didn't see the winter we had up here last year). Decided I am going to turn an old bike into a trainer. I did a search of the old posts here; but came up empty. The Kurt Kinetics trainer
was a Bicycling magazine's Editor's Choice. It's also very expensive, over $300 if you include shipping for the road model. I find it annoying they charge a lot more for a flywheel that weighs a couple pounds more. Anyway, that is the situation, any thoughts? Ever try Spinnervals, or any other training stuff?

I have tried several trainer over the years, and the Kinetic Road is hands down the best I've owned. Yes it's expensive, but it's built like a tank, runs very smooth and quiet, and no leaks. I got mine from analytic.com for $315 shipped (w/ the heavier flywheel) and a free Spinervals video, though I much prefer the CTS videos. You won't regret it.

Have you looked at the 1upUSA trainer? It is bomb-proof. I just bought one recently. I love it and have never seen anything approaching it in quality. ...I definitely recommend it. It was $300 shipped.

Sorry,
never heard of it. I hang out at another forum, unrelated to cycling. A couple of the members are cyclists, and have the Kurt Kinetics and like it. Have you tried
the Kurt Kinetics; was wondering what differences there might be.

I've heard that the Kurt Kinetic trainer is good also, but I have no first-hand knowledge about it. I notice that their webpage doesn't give much info either.

I discovered the 1upUSA trainer by reading reviews on roadbikereview.com. Or it may have been mtbr.com ...not sure. But it was rated highly ...as was the Kurt Kinetic. The 1up trainer is purely mechanical and built like a tank, so I chose to go with it, and I feel that it was money well spent.
