Southern California - Don't you hate it when that happens?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I came across this thinking it was about a cyclist, but thought some of you might find it amusing...I mean sad...anyway.

That's actually not uncommon, although it usually doesn't happen in accidents where the rider or driver proceeds on. Although you usually hear about the "phantom limb" phenomenon regarding people who lost an arm or leg a long time ago, it also occurs right away during an accident. Sometimes an accident victim doesn't realize that he has lost a limb until he sees it lying on the ground, or is later informed at the hospital (even though he may have been fully conscious at the scene and in the ambulance).
Moral of the story: next time you "yardsale" on your bike, make sure you pick up everything you dropped. EVERYTHING.

After every "shiny side down" on my motorcycle or bicycle I always give myself the full diagnostic look over right away. When the adrenaline flows you will be suprised at what you will not notice.
As for this motorcyclist, it is amazing he was riding along after a crash like that.
Oh yeah, and nothing is as humbling as being out paced by a one legged bicyclist (or you a member of BF BTW?).

"Jerry Hubner is the most inspirational cyclist of the 2007 Breathless Agony Century.
Jerry had polio when he was 2 years old.
It's amazing to think that a rider can complete this course with no left leg strength!!
And you thought it was hard with two strong legs?" (http://www.cyclingpros.com/Onyx0704.htm)

'So, it'll grow back, then?'
Here is a website (http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/) that explains the guys options for getting his leg back...
Yes, it is a cruel website.... but safe for work.
