not sure if this would be better in bike mechanics but I figure if anyone is doing it, it's the cyclocrossers.
I'm set to pick up a Mavic 317 700c wheelset with disc ready hubs off of CL tomorrow for my Nashbar build and was wondering what to do about shifters now. I like my Shimano STI 105's on my JTS, but I am wondering if these or Campy Ergo shifters are even compatible with disc brakes? What are you guys with disc brakes on your cross bikes running? I'm open to any suggestions.

cheers

lemond outfits their poprad disc (avid BB7 roads) with shimano 105 STI so they should work np.

Yep, you have to use the Road BB7 calipers so they match the pull of STI brifters. But I'd be curious to see how MTB BB7s worked.

Since the MTB BB7's are optimized for V-brake lever use they don't work worth a damn with road / canti levers. That's why they make the road version.

Roh, roh...
I just got home a couple hours ago with those mavic a317's and started piecing it all together. Looks like (unfortunately) I bought nashbar's disc brake package (came with EVERYTHING) when I originally ordered the frame (2 months ago) and in the instructions, it says WARNING: Nashbar mechanical disc brakes are designed for use with linear pull brake levers, also known as V brake levers. Brake levers that pull less than 24mm of cable should not be used with Nashbar mechanical disc brakes!
Maybe travel agents are in order or maybe I can shifters that will work or maybe I need other discs.

Just thought I would save everyone else the frustration I am surely about to feel!

anyone know of other "road" disc brakes? Looks like the BB7R are like $80 or so a pop...ouch. That adds considerable expense to this bike build :(

oh well. I will let you all know if I find other compatible disc brakes.

Tektro makes a road disc. also, there are inline Travel Agents available (they mount to a canti boss) to allow MTB discs to be actuated with short-pull levers.

funny thing is I did a bit of "research" and there are several "road" disc brakes. tektro does in fact make some but when you read the fine print, it says "requires linear pull brake levers". I'm not sure which model is compatible with road levers, however I did come across "road discs" from Shimano that are designed to be actuated by road levers, Shimano BR-R505 and it looks like Avid is addressing this market with two models set up specifically for road levers, and I'm sure others will jump in soon too (least I hope).
