Southern California - Rides in Palm Springs

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Hey all. I'm headed to Palm Springs over Labor Day weekend to vist Grandma. Does anyone know of any group rides out there, or nice routes to take for solo slogs. I'll be splitting time between Palm Springs and La Quinta(Dad's house). Thanks.

I've been wanting to do that ride. Have you done it? How is it?

Back in 2002 I rode up the Tramway Road. It’s a little over three miles long and is steepest at the top. It’s the toughest hill I’ve ever ridden which includes Palomar.
Best thing to do is go in the morning before the Tram opens as then you don’t have to deal with any traffic. The road is shielded from the desert winds which is nice.
What really sucked is that the road was in terrible condition with potholes everywhere. I was on the brakes the entire trip down because I didn't want to go too fast on the rough road. Hopefully the road condition has improved since 2002.

Yeah, i drove up there December last year and the road was in terrible condition. However i think remember reading that it has been repaved since then.

The Desert Bike Club (http://www.cycleclub.com/)has group rides throughout the week and always welcome guests.
My husband and I live in La Quinta and will be home over that weekend. We usually ride on Sundays. Early (it is summer here after all :o). PM me if you are interested in joining us. :)

That's great, I'd love to hook up with you guys. I'll be in La Quinta on Sunday and starting early is no problem. I'll PM you soon to figure out the details. Thanks so much.
