Ok, I have been looking around now for a couple of months and have narrowed the list to these three bikes any comments? I go 230 with semi aggressive riding.

Gary Fisher HiFi

Specialized Stumpjumper FSR

Santa Cruz Blur or Nomad

Thanks
Mike

I love my HiFi, it handles great and is a really sweet ride. I'm around 270 and I have had no problems with it. Although I've been off of it for 8 weeks now, the Dr gave me the go ahead to get back on the mountain bike the first of september, can't wait, at least I will be able to get some nice fall riding in before winter :).

Don't know the HiFi but am familiar with the Specialize (I have a 2006 FSR Comp) and the SC Blur and Nomads (I owned an older Blue now have a Superlight and friends have both).

I believe you can't go wrong with the Stumpjumper - it's a good bike, with great components for the money and can take fairly agressive riding (and hold up to my big butt!). Plus Specialize stands behind it's products if there is a problem.

I love SC products. I love my new Superlight but SC is not as good for product problems as Specialized. They come through but it take longer. But the Blur and Nomad are great performing bikes and can take you anywhere.

Probably all 3 bikes are good - just a matter of pricing and components. Have fun shopping!

Wait for the '08 HiFi 29ers. I saw them in action, drooled, then drooled some more. Everyone who rode them asked the Trek demo guy if they could buy it there.. that must tell you something, I'd think? :)

so my daughter is considering racing on the HiFi 29er next year, she loves the geometry. If I hadn't just bought mine I would even consider the 29er, but oh well, this ride has to last me for several thousands of miles of trails.

I'd like a 29er, but I'm afraid of more big wheel destruction. Or rather, me destroying big wheels.

I rode a Trek 8500 recently and.. whoa. I didn't realize a MTB could fly like that. It was almost like riding my Trek FX except with extra noise and.. well.. okay maybe it wasn't. But it sure was fast!

I'm considering that or a 8000 for my next toy. I know road bikes are better because of u, v, w, x, y, and z but I'm all about the big wheels.
