Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I've been biking for a long time. I've recently purchased my second bike, a 1997 Bianchi Eros, which replaces a worn out Nishiki Olympic12 purchased new in 1972. I have read a lot on these forums about fitting a bike and that the best way to fit a bike is to get on it and ride and see how it feels and I subscribe to that theory. I'm a little new to all this geometry and frame size business, but I am catching on I think with the help of all the great information on these forums. But I was wondering, what in the world is the significance of the frame size relative to the actual dimensions of a bike. Below is a link to the specifications page on Bianchi's website for the 2007 Eros. At the bottom of the page is the geometry chart. Can anyone tell me what specification in the chart relates to the frame size number? The specs move all over and it seems only by chance that some of the numbers bear any resemblance to the frame size. Is this hieroglyphics? Someone please straighten me out.

Usually it is the "seat tube" size, which determine the size of the frame. Here its a little different, because its a compact frame (top tube is not parallel to the ground), and as you can see, there is a "Top Tube-virtual" size.
Read the link xilios sent you. I think this will help.
