I crossed the Huron River on my Trek 6000 yesterday. Literally
Actually I was in a shallow section near a canoe livery and when the water got to just under a half a meter (like 1.5 feet) and covered the BB I chickened out and held the bike over my head and walked across (the guys on the canoes were like "wtf?").
How deep is "too deep" for water fording? The bottom bracket on my bike is supposed to be sealed and I made sure to bounce the bike up and down till the components were relatively dry.
Is there a protocol for fording water in terms of what kind of equip you should be using and how you take care of it after the ride or is fording generally off limits?
PS - I was glad that I was wearing quick drying lycra and I had disk breaks so I could stop before the water depth dropped to almost .75 meters or so :D:D Close one with a dark section of the crossing@!
