So about the bike I bought at the goodwill... the one I keep getting hassled about from the LBS guys....

It has an old Suntour 6 speed freewheel on it. I found out I need a 2 prong freewheel remover to get it off. But here's the question. Once I get it off, will I be able to take gears off and put spacers in place? Or should I just buy a new single speed freewheel like the Shimano 16t?

If I do get a 16t, what size chain and big crank will that work with?

I know there are tons of calculators out there and most likely someone will point me to sheldonbrown, but I thought I'd ask again now since it's kind of relevent.

Thanks. Peace!

pretty much any freewheel will work with any chainring as long as the chain is long enough. when i'm building up a new bike, or chainging cogs or rings i usually just take a brand new chain, wrap it around both, then look at where it overlaps to get the tightest possible rear end with the rear axle safely in the rear dropouts (if it happens to be a road frame).

i would just go with a new freewheel. i don't think you can break apart a 6 speed freewheel (easily), and still have it useable. most people use spacers when they have a cassette freehub set up.
