General Cycling Discussion - Specialized Body Geometry Seat

Has anyone here used the Specialized Body Geometry Seat?

Does the groove in the back (men's version) make a big difference?

I'm thinking of getting one and wondering if anyone has any opionins on it..

I have one and it worked very well. If you are concerned about weight it is a heavy seat. Very comfortable. I can sell you mine for cheap if you want to try it out. I went with a lighter seat.

i have the basic seat on my old MTB, now my commuter - had it for over 3 years now.

and also i have the "Pro" on my new MTB - for 1 1/2 years.

i find both very comfortable and the seat is good at supporting my body on the sit-bones. i find both of my seats more comfy than my normal seat on my road bike (some day i will buy one for it too)

so in the last 3 1/2 years i have over 20,000 miles on the Body Geometry seats and i am happy.

i hate them, the first time I went off road with it my ass was sore for 3 days.

Everyone i different, I have never interfaced well with Body Geometry seats...

I've used one in the past and it was comfortable. I've recently switched to the Selle line of saddles and after an adjustment period for my butt I'm quite pleased with my new saddle.

I have a Specialized Body Geometry Sport saddle on both of my bikes and I am very happy with them. I did 30 miles on Saturday and I was very comfortable in the saddle all day.

Yes and no. The groove is deep enough in the back that the you are only contacting the back part of the saddle with your sit bones. However, the groove does not go far enough forward to the nose of the saddle and still allows you to have pressure on the sensitive nerves.

It's a half-ass attempt (pun intended) at fixing a problem.

I had the '02 BG Pro on my road bike but removed it after a very painful 70 mile ride. I replaced it with the Fi'zi:k Aliante.

The '02 BG Pro on my mountain bike is about to be replaced by either the Terry Zero or the Selle Italia Flight Gel Flow. I'm out of my saddle a lot more on that bike but I've decided I still need to replace it.

They're comfortable for the people they're comfortable for, and not for the ones they're not. I don't really think they average any better or worse than other saddles in that regard. (I tried one, hated it. Most uncomfortable saddle I ever used. But they come in a lot more different sizes and shapes now.)

It's always a good idea to try to source your saddles from a vendor that takes returns, such as REI or a sympathetic local bike shop.

You can also increase your chances of finding a compatible saddle by doing a little front-end analysis. Measure the width of your sit-bones so you know how wide the back of the saddle needs to be. Assess the size of your thighs; will a saddle that's wide in the middle chafe you unmercifully? Do you have a problem with perineal numbess or chafing that a center cutout might help?

My bike came with one. I did not care for it. I replaced it with a San Marco Arami Gelaround. That works well, but that is just me.

I have one on my road bike and one on each of my mtbs (2001 pro i think) i have spent extended periods of time (up to 4 on the road and 6 on the mtb) at casual and at race pace and find them to be agreeable. And when your really clipping along you can feel the draft from the little vents in the groove. Ummmmmm vents.

I got one a while back and hate it. It has been gathering dust for a while as an emergency saddle.

My all-time favourite saddles are still my well-worn Brooks Pro and Competition. Among modern saddles, I do prefer those with grooves or indentations on top; I have had good luck with a Serfas ARC and with a grooved GT. Sheldon Brown has a good saddle comfort discussion.

Its gonna be rock hard for the first couple of days but once you get use to it you'll never wnat to leave it ;)

if you want mine i'll sell it to you for 20bucks if you pay shipping, I literally rode it one time.

I really like mine. I have the '02 pro on my lemond. It is pretty hard, but it is very light (mangense rails? mangenese!!!) and I am no longer numb on long rides.
