Touring - Stumpjumer setup for touring- No rear pannier holes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I would like to do some light touring on my Specialized Stumpjumper Pro. I have a dash pack but the rear of my bike does not have the top holes to attach panniers. My front RockShock SID also does not accept panniers.
What would you suggest? Changing my front fork or is there another solution? I know a seat clamp can only hold 25 pounds and I needs to be able to carry a few pairs of pants, shirts, shoes and other gear. The back clamp does not store enough gear.
Any ideas or recommendations? I dont want to buy a new bike.

Take a look at The Touring Store's rack fitting solutions. (http://tinyurl.com/y8vrky) You can also find racks that are made to attach at the brake bosses, such as OMM brand racks.
No need to change the fork. If you look through the FLT Gallery you'll note many front suspended mountain bikes that have front racks fitted to the shock fork.
I'll be doing the same thing to our two Klein Attitude mtbs before we tour the Continental Divide trail.

If you don't have the top holes for the rear rack, you can get a bracket that attaches to the fender mount. I used this kind of system for many years of fully-supported touring. The bike I used at the time, a Mongoose from the late 1980s, didn't have the rack mounts. I didn't ever have a problem with that system even when I loaded all my gear on the rear wheel.

The Stumpjumper doesn't have fender mounts. Old Man Mountain is probably your best bet. I have one but I don't really like it. Makes changing a flat a pain. And the racks aren't cheap. Another option would be a trailer. I don't usually like trailers but for off-road touring, they beat the heck out of bags on a bike. Your bike just handles better (bumps and stuff) with a trailer rather than loading up the front fork with weight. A BOB Yak will cost about the same as a quality set of racks (front and rear) and bags (front and rear) will cost. REI has them for $330, while an OMM front and rear rack will cost around $250. Bags will cost around another $200. Heck that's the price of an Ibex trailer;)
