What would you guys suggest for a great all around winter clincher? I'm building up my Surly Crosscheck as a winter bike that I'll be riding five days a week, 8 hours a day as a courier in SF. Do you think something knobby would be in order? I'd like something that would still enable me to ride fast if need be, but also feel secure as there are a lot of bumpy, unpaved roads and slippery train tracks to negotiate. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would search in the commuting forum. Schwalbe marathons and Gatorskins seem well regarded.
