Mountain Biking - Buy 2007 bike or wait for 2008?

I'm still undecided about getting a decent mountain bike (I'm not sure how much I would be using it), however I choose to place and order with a nearby shop for a 2007 Scott Scale 50.

I got an email back fairly quickly saying that the Scale 50 was out of stock and would not be replenished as Scott are replacing them with their 2008 bikes.

The advice was to hang on for the 2008 models but no pricing was given and the date they will arrive was put at around a month away.

I'm keen to get my hands on a new bike sooner rather than later (I'll be busier in a month so would have less time to break it in) and was curious as to whether I should wait or just look elsewhere for the 2007 model?

I was looking for a bike earlier this month and my LBS was out of the model I wanted in an '07, but sold me the next model up ($100 increase MSRP) for only $20 more than MSRP of the model I originally wanted. I know this is clearance time, but I feel I got a good deal. Shop around, maybe you will find more than you were looking for.

Shop around, you may be able to find a deal on a 2007.

If you are looking to buy a bike that you know won't be totally changed in 08, the 07s can be a great deal.
My LBS knocked off 150 dollars from my recent purchase of a Trek 6000.

Then again, if you're looking for a bike like the Trek Fuel series, the changes coming new in 08 could mean a world of difference and be worth the money in the long run (as in changes to frame geometry - changes in components don't matter as much b/c you can just buy the new ones when the stock run out).

So I guess you should look around for a bike in 07 that'll be mostly the same in 08.

Industry rumors are that for 08 everyone's going to unveil their new zero-loss CVT gearbox bikes, totally doing away with derailleurs once and for all and with no weight penalty whatsoever. All of the major manufacturers have been secretly collaborating on this for an 08 roll-out at InterBike and predict that the new line-up will instantly render obsolete everything existing on the showroom floor.

Some moron mailroom kid who works for Specialized spilled the beans on a Nepalese chat room and was instantly canned - - but not in time to stem the damage.
